Every time Regina heard Madeline speak, it was like a cloud of gloom descended upon her. Initially, she couldn’t figure out why, but then it dawned on her-it was probably because she couldn’t stand the way Madeline kept dropping Nolan’s name as if he belonged to her.
Regardless of what the future held, Nolan was now her husband, fair and square.
Who did Madeline think she was, flaunting Nolan’s name around as if it was some kind of trophy?
They weren’t even related. Why the need for such affectionate name-dropping?
Regina ignored her and walked directly towards Francis’ study. She had business to discuss with him.
But Madeline, relentless as ever, blocked her way at the door.
“Are you deaf? I’m talking to you.” she snapped.
Taking a deep breath, Regina turned around and looked down at her in feigned surprise. “Oh, were you speaking to me? Sorry, I must have missed it. Maybe it’s because you’re a bit on the short side.”
Madeline huffed, “Enjoy it while it lasts. Sooner or later, Nolan will be fed up playing the couple with you!
It’s not like you two have any real connection. He’d be better off without you. He was unlucky enough to get tangled up with someone as shady as you.”
Regina couldn’t help but laugh. She was shady? What did that make Madeline then?
Clinging to her father’s surname, spewing nonsense, Madeline really thought highly of herself.
“Madeline, why are you so full of yourself? What’s it to you if I’m with Nolan or not? Whether we stay married or get a divorce, it’s not like he’s going to fall for you. You might as well give up on that fantasy.”
Madeline’s face turned beet red, hitting a nerve “What are you talking about? I just can’t stand to see him waste his time on someone like you!”
“Oh, is that so? Wasn’t it you who told me you had your sights on Nolan and asked me not to compete with you? Too bad, Nolan was meant for me from the start. You’re always going to be second in line.”
The moment Regina brought up the past, Madeline’s demeanor darkened significantly. She had indeed confessed her feelings for Nolan to Regina,
Regina remembered it perfectly and now was using it to mock her!

Madeline lunged at Regina, ready to claw her eyes out. But with a swift sidestep, Madeline ended up tumbling to the floor with a thud, looking rather hurt.

Regina wrapped her arms around herself, watching coldly. “So what if I remember? Nolan agreed my dad’s propose because of me. Did you really think he would spare us a glance if it were you instead? Besides, you were never a Tanner to begin with.” Regina’s insinuation was clear: Madeline was never even a contender in this game. She lacked even the qualifications to be a backup.
Even if she now masqueraded as the Tanner family’s second daughter, what did it matter? In the end, she was just a Cinderella who had to return her glass shoes by midnight.
