Regina just couldn’t grasp it. “This whole debacle today wasn’t my fault. Dahlia showed up at my office and caused a scene. If you’d looked into it, you’d know I’m not the other woman in their non-existent relationship. So, how is this mess even related to me? She made a spectacle of herself in front of everyone. I’m a victim here, too, aren’t I?”
“Excuse me! I barely say one thing, and you’re quick with a comeback. Who’s the boss here?”
He had groveled before Nolan, all meek and subservient like a little lapdog, bending over backward despite his age. But in front of Regina, he puffed himself up like a peacock.
“Of course, you’re the boss, but what does that have to do with whether I’ve done anything wrong? Just because you’re in charge, does that give you the right to accuse me unjustly? If I didn’t do something, I didn’t do it. I would say the same thing to anyone.”
“Ugh, you! Who’s your manager? Get them here; I want to see who’s responsible for bringing up such a defiant reporter.”
There was no need for him to step in further; everyone else had already gotten the hint and dispersed, not wanting to be the next target of his tirade.
“It’s got nothing to do with my manager.” Regina stood her ground, refusing to back down. She was still mulling over Nolan’s expression as he left, not even noticing her standing there.
He didn’t even ask if she wanted to go to the hospital with him; he just took off.
Didn’t he consider that she might be scared, too?
Fuming, Regina didn’t wait for her superior to lecture her any further. She stormed the parking lot, determined to confront Nolan for clarity.
Did he care about her at all?
Now that she was his wife, was their relationship nothing more than a mere contract t him?
Didn’t he have even a shred of concern for her?
Back there, in front of everyone, his leaving with Dahlia in his arms, wasn’t that a slap in her face?
It was as if he was announcing to all that they had a history.
Yet she never interfered in their relationship, so how was she supposed to hold her head high at the company now?

If Nolan had any inkling of care for her, he would never have done such a thing.
Moreover, at that moment, Regina felt like a mere bystander, him so indifferent, fixated only on the person in his arms.
Regina knew he didn’t like her, but they had been good friends before, hadn’t they?
Or had her father’s issues made him completely disregard her?
Anxious, Regina knew she had to go to the hospital; she needed to understand Nolan’s true feelings.
Once the ambulance reached the hospital, Dahlia, still on the gurney, refused to let go of Nolan’s hand.
“Please don’t leave, okay? I know I made mistakes in the past, and I’ve always been sorry. I wouldn’t have come back from abroad if I hadn’t realized that. You know me better than anyone, right? Don’t go again. I’ve missed you so much, and I long for the days when we were together.”
Nolan didn’t respond to her plea; he just comforted the figure on the stretcher.
“Don’t worry now. The doctor’s going to stitch you up, and you’ll feel better soon, no more pain.”
“I don’t want them to stitch me up. I need an answer from you! Tell me, have you forgiven
me or not?”
