“Heh,” Dahlia said, her urgency fading into a smirk, “Why the act? My relationship with him is out there for everyone to see. You just swooped in and stole him away. Be honest with yourself-do you really have a clear conscience?”
After turning away, Dahlia’s tone shifted again, now playing the part of the heartbroken lover.
“You know Nolan, he’s such a mama’s boy. His folks have been on his back to settle down, and I bet he rushed into marrying you just to save face in front of the family. But he promised, didn’t he? That after the holidays, we’d take a trip to Paris and elope?
If it wasn’t for his family pressure, he’d never in a million years marry someone like you. Could you, I don’t know, maybe let us be? Once we’re married, I swear I’ll make it up to you. Please, I’m begging you, just let us go.”
She suddenly grabbed Regina’s hand, tears falling like raindrops to the floor.
The heat of her tears startled Regina, who tried to pull away, but Dahlia’s grip was iron-clad, leaving her stuck.

Nolan headed straight for Regina, taking her hand gently to check for any injuries.
Regina, feeling shy, withdrew her hand.
“Are you hurt?” Nolan asked, concern in his eyes.
Regina smiled briefly and shook her head. “I’m fine. Why don’t you check on Dahlia? She seems to have some misconceptions about us. If there’s truth to what she’s saying, I’ll head to the city hall and file for divorce right now. I won’t force you to marry me. I’ll try my best to handle things with my dad.”
Hearing her say this, Nolan’s temper flared.
“If you could really persuade your father, would we even be having this conversation? Don’t bite off more than you can chew. I’ll handle things with Dahlia on my own. You don’t need to stick your nose in it.”
With that, he dropped Regina’s hand. She hugged her arms, confused by his sudden change in attitude. Wasn’t he the one who had been reluctant to marry her all along?
