Chapter 2767
Regina furrowed her brow, a look of disdain crossing her face as she considered Ahab’s words. She had always been a firm believer in the adage “the innocent have nothing to hide,” but she was also acutely aware that some folks were gullible enough to fall for Ahab’s fabrications.
“Sorry to burst your bubble, Mr. Ahab
she said, her voice laced with ice. “I’ve recorded every single word you just spouted. As for the rumors you’ve been spreading, my lawyer will handle them from here on out. Don’t think for a second that because I’m the new kid on the block, I’m an easy target. The article in that magazine? Consider it Exhibit A in the lawsuit I’m bringing against you. You’re going to pay for this.”
The colleagues around them were visibly taken aback by Regina’s boldness, some admiring her resolve to take a stand. Litigation wasn’t a short game; it was a marathon that could stretch on indefinitely.
It was clear Regina was in it for the long haul, ready to settle the score once and for all.
“Bullshit! Everything I said was the truth. Prove me wrong!” Ahab retorted, his voice rising
in anger.
Regina cracked a wry smile. “If you’re so confident, Mr. Ahab, then I’ve got nothing more to I’ll see you in court. Let’s see if you’re still this brazen when the gavel comes down. And I wonder if your dear uncle will still vouch for you then?”
say.
Ahab’s heart sank as he remembered his uncle’s warnings to keep a low profile and avoid. causing any trouble. If Regina took him to court, how could he possibly win without his uncle’s influence?
If he lost to her, he’d be branded for life, the stain of shame irremovable. How could journalist with a bright future, become the pariah everyone scorned?
Fear clawed at Ahab’s heart. His eyes darted to the recording pen in Regina’s hand, lunged forward in a desperate attempt to snatch it couldn’t let her sue him away!!!
“What’s the matter, Mr. Ahab? Lost your nerve? Regina taunted, a smirk playing on he lips as she effortlessly sidestepped his clumsy advance. “I thought we agreed to settle this in court. Why the rush to grab my evidence?”
Regina’s colleagues felt a shiver run down their spines; it was clear she was out for bloo Some even began to mentally review their own interactions with her, fearing that they might end up in the same boat as Ahab if they had ever crossed her.
The boss, meanwhile, remained silent, watching the drama unfold with interest. That man had forewarned him to let Regina vent her fury
Regina had carte blanche to handle things her way.
It was almost amusing how this fiery upstart had caught the eye of that man, and he had made it clear that Regina should remain oblivious to his intervention.
Even after she had stormed out in a blaze of anger back then, the boss hadn’t been upset. Was their boss attending some secret classes in emotional control?
Dealing with Regina’s outbursts was headache enough on regular days, let alone in front of such high-profile individuals. She really had some nerve.
As Ahab continued to struggle, the colleagues who had been restraining him momentarily loosened their grip. Just as they were about to intercept him again, Ahab collapsed to his knees before Regina with a thud.
Had she not stepped back quickly, he would have clung to her in desperation.
“Regina, please, I’m begging you-don’t sue me. I can’t go to jail! I’ll apologize, do whatever you want, just… please give me that recording, he pleaded, his face streaked with tears.
Regina crossed her arms and looked down at him with disdain, finding the sight of his groveling revolting.
If only he had shown a fraction of this humility when he was tormenting her, he wouldn’t have found himself in such a pitiable state.
