Chapter 2747
“Did he vanish last night, or just step out for a moment?” Nolan asked.
The team before him shifted uncomfortably, heads bowed in a mix of shame and frustration. They had hoped the issue with the vagrant was resolved when they found the spot empty. But now, it seemed their luck had been nothing more than wishful thinking.
“If you can’t handle this task, don’t bother coming back to the office. Do I really need to get involved in such trivial matters?” Nolan massaged his forehead, feeling the weight of his team’s complacency.
Handling such minor issues was part of the job, after all. If not, they had no reason to stay.
And from the day he’d built his empire, Nolan had drilled into his team the importance of customer service. If they couldn’t deal with a simple issue like a homeless man, what was their purpose? It could cast doubt among their clientele, something Nolan couldn’t tolerate.
Did he really need to remind them again?
Nolan had a hunch that the vagrant’s disappearance had something to do with Regina despite her being a newcomer. After a few interactions, he sensed she had an uncanny ability to earn trust effortlessly.
And indeed, his staff soon reported back after reviewing some surveillance footage. Regina had been seen leaving with the man.
“Mr. Harris, should we contact that lady? Our research found that she is a journalist with New Blossom Press. Perhaps speaking with her superiors could resolve the situation directly,” a colleague suggested.
Nolan frowned, “Resolve what? Why would you contact her superiors?”
“To apply pressure of course-”
Nolan cut him off, “Enough. I’ll go find her myself and you can leave it. I know her. Watch your step in the future, got it?”
His colleague nodded again and again, realizing why Mr. Harris tensed up at the mention of Regina. So she was an old acquaintance of him. The staff member covered his mouth for his earlier words; a slip-up could mean he’s in over his head.
Nolan felt irked. He didn’t want Regina tangled up in this mess, especially with potential links to past dealings they’d had with developers. Even if she was the heiress of the Tanner family, it would be dangerous for a girl to get involved all by herself.
After some thought, Nolan stood, grabbed his car keys, and decided it was time for a chat with Regina.
Having made arrangements for Ablett, Regina changed into fresh attire and returned to the office. She needed to report her findings to her superiors if the investigation was to continue.
The thought of confronting her boss made her a tad uneasy since their last encounter had been less than pleasant.
She was aware of how the others viewed her. But she didn’t care. Her sights were set beyond the entertainment desk; she was determined to move to the societal issues beat, to engage with real stories that mattered to people.
Knock, knock, knock-
“Come in.”
The boss’s frown deepened at the sight of Regina walking through the door. She had a reputation for being unyielding and fearless, a maverick who respected no one’s opinion but her own.
“What can I do for you?” he asked
