Nolan had no plans to take their relationship to the next level. No matter what reasons Dahlia had back then, he couldn’t accept what she’d done.
“No, please! I don’t want us to become strangers! We could have been the most loving couple, yet because of a moment’s folly, you still can’t forgive me. But deep down, you still love me, don’t you? Who else could be this close to you, and who else could share such intimacy?”
Dahlia searched Nolan’s eyes in a panic, desperate to confirm she was the only one for him.
Yet Nolan coldly removed her hands from his waist, one finger at a time.
“Dahlia, you indeed hold a special place for me, but life is long, and you’re not the only one who can fill it. You know what? When Regina got close to me last time, I didn’t feel weird.” Nolan’s serious tone wiped the smile off Dahlia’s face. “What are you saying? Are you telling me you’re getting involved with her? Remember how she made a scene at my show? Have you forgotten that?”!
Nolan shook his head. “Didn’t you just say the interview today went well?”
“That was just to lighten the mood for you.” Dahlia struggled to keep her composure, fighting hard not to tremble. “You haven’t answered my question. Are you going to be with, her?”
“Heh, is that what you think of me? That I’m fickle? Let me tell you something, not everyone who comes close to me is a no-go. Besides you, there’s another woman, and who knows, maybe there will be others in the future.”
Dahlia stepped back, stunned. “Fine, Nolan, you’re something else. I came back from abroad for you. My career was soaring there, but I chose to start from scratch here, just to be closer to you. And now you’re telling me I’m not the only one, that there are other women. Are you trying to get back at me? What? I never knew you were such a petty man.”
Nolan stood there, letting her vent, his expression growing colder by the second.
“You said the same thing two years ago, and now you’re repeating it. Don’t you think it’s tiresome? Why would you pine for a childish man like me? When you decided to come back, did you ask for my opinion? You left without telling me, and now you’re pushing all the blame onto me. Is that how an adult behaves? Dahlia, I’ve said I’ve forgotten the past, and I don’t want to remember it, but this is where it ends between us. If you need any professional assistance, you can contact my secretary Lucy. I’ll fulfill my responsibilities, but as for anything else, let’s just forget it.”
Seeing Nolan so indifferent truly frightened Dahlia. She knew their relationship was hanging by a thread, and it was her fault she’d missed out on a perfect man.
The regret she’d felt during her years abroad was as swift as her decision to return. She’d come back with unspeakable intentions, hoping to catch Nolan off guard.
She too wanted to hasten back, to see if another woman had entered his life.
