Elton stepped forward, volunteering to be the one to deliver the ransom.
Mara instantly objected, “Dad, you can’t possibly go. What if those kidnappers snatch you
up too? You don’t know how to defend yourself. It’s way
risky, and I won’t allow it.”
Alyssa hesitated before adding, “Mr. Lewis, we understand your desperation to save your daughter, but this is an extremely dangerous undertaking. If something goes wrong…”
Captain Aidan nodded in agreement, “Their concerns are valid, Mr. Lewis. You should stay back and keep watch. Let our officers handle the exchange. We’ll make sure the ransom is delivered to the specified drop.”

Mara clutched her’s arm tightly. “No matter how many reasons you give, I won’t agree to let you go! Dad, not only is Victoria your daughter, but I’m your daughter too. Did you even consider how I feel? What will I do if something happens to you?”

“Daddy, I don’t want you to go.”
Seeing her cry so piteously, the adults present found it hard to bear. Yet, after hearing Elton’s analysis, they agreed that he was the best choice for the task.
Even in the worst-case scenario, Dean and Alyssa would still be there to keep hope alive. Knowing this gave Elton the courage to propose delivering the ransom himself, confident that the elders wouldn’t abandon Victoria.
“There, there, my dear. Don’t you trust me? Just wait here for me to come back,” Elton. reassured Mara as he prepared to follow the police to retrieve the ransom and scout the area one more time..
“No, please don’t go. Don’t leave me all alone.”
But tears and protests were in vain. Elton decisively pulled away from her grasping hands, “Be good, my child. I will come back.”
With that, he joined the police officers, determined to see the mission through, leaving Mara with the assurance of his return, despite her fears.
