Chapter 2426
“Cut it out already,” Ivy pleaded, her voice tinged with desperation. Her fragile heart couldn’t handle Balfour’s repeated jests.
To Balfour, his words may have been casual, but to Ivy, it was like he was upping the ante on her racing heart with every joke.
“I’m not kidding. Why would you think I am?” Balfour asked, noticing Ivy’s unease. He added, “I’m right outside your building.”
Ivy’s breath caught in her throat.
Balfour was outside her building? What on earth did that mean? Was he actually standing outside her dorm this very moment?
“Don’t believe me? Then come out on your balcony and see for yourself,” Balfour said, his tone almost tinged with laughter.
Ivy thought him mad. It was the wee hours of the morning, well past 2 AM, and instead of sleeping, he’d driven to her dorm.
If that wasn’t insanity, what was?
“You’re insane!” she blurted out.
Her outburst only made Balfour chuckle. “Step out for a moment, and you’ll see whether I’m lying or not. Take your time, I’ll be right here waiting for you.”
After a moment of silence on the line, Ivy could be heard rustling, presumably getting out,
of bed.
The next moment, there she was on the balcony.
Clad in her thin nightgown, phone in hand, she looked bewildered as she peered down.
Their eyes met, Balfour standing by his car, Ivy above on her balcony. Both were silent, holding their phones and staring.
Ivy moved her lips but ended up saying, “You’re absolutely nuts.”
Balfour laughed softly, his smile somehow more abundant tonight.
Ivy’s vision blurred, yet she felt as though she could see his rare smile as clear as day.
She couldn’t help but smile in return.
“I’m not lying. I really wanted to see you.”
They looked at each other, he below, she above.
A blush crept onto Ivy’s cheeks, and despite the chill in her light nightgown, she felt warm.

Her blood seemed to boil with excitement.
“How long have you been out there? How long have you been waiting?” she asked.
“Not long,” Balfour lied. He had been there for over an hour since leaving the hospital, not wanting to disturb Ivy’s sleep. But the pull to see her was too strong to resist.
“Are you lying to me?”
In that moment, Ivy felt a connection like never before. “If you came all this way, why don’t you come up?”
“Would you let me in if I did?” Balfour asked, somewhat dazed, unsure if Ivy really wanted to see him, even though their conversation had been pleasant.
Ivy chuckled softly, “Do you expect us to talk from the balcony forever? Come up here already.”
As soon as she nodded, Balfour’s long legs carried him away from his car.
After hanging up, Ivy touched her face, muttering, “Jeez, I’m burning up. Totally nuts, totally nuts. That man has lost it, and now I’m losing my cool too? Middle of the night is no time for this nonsense.”
She leaned against the wall and slowly made her way back to her bed. But before long, she found herself getting up again, rushing over to the sofa to wait.
