Chapter 2425
Seren bit her lower lip, a silent prayer in her heart that Mara would remember their bond.
Meanwhile, Mara remained unconscious in her hospital bed, and Balfour ensured she had no issues before departing.
However, instead of heading home, he found himself driving to Ivy’s dorm building.
He sat quietly in his car, the reasons for his presence there blurred in his mind. All he knew was that on this particular night, he had an overwhelming urge to see Ivy.
Ivy was utterly baffled when her phone rang, and Balfour’s name flashed on the screen. After being swamped with rehearsals all day, she didn’t get back to her dorm until ten at night.
“Hello?” she answered, her eyes still heavy with sleep, barely registering the gentle breathing on the other end.
Blinking away the grogginess, Ivy pulled the phone away to double-check the caller ID. Balfour?
“Why are you calling at this hour? Hello? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Was something wrong?
Suddenly wide awake, Ivy sat bolt upright in bed. “Come on, talk to me. What’s going on?”
“It’s nothing urgent,” he finally said, his voice cutting through the darkness like a beacon. “I just wanted to see you.”
Her voice came out a bit raspy, “Aren’t you supposed to be with Ms. Lewis?”
“I want to see you. What does she have to do with it?”
For some reason, just hearing Ivy’s voice seemed to relax Balfour. He leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes and picturing her in her bed, talking to him, and he felt an immense sense of comfort wash over him.
Ivy couldn’t help the acidic tinge in her voice. “Didn’t you think I was guilty of that thing? Why call me now? Don’t you find me, this vile woman, loathsome?”
Despite her joking tone, bitterness lingered in her heart.
Upon hearing Ivy bring up the incident, Balfour straightened up, his tone serious as he apologized. “I was just panicked back then. I know I was wrong; I’ve never really thought you would do such a thing.”
Ivy froze, the apology and the delayed trust from Balfour finally reaching her after all this
time.
Chapter 2425
She turned her face away, sniffling. “I’m not angry. I wouldn’t hold a grudge over something like that.””
Balfour chuckled softly. “Of course not. Ms. Dunhill, you’re too generous to bother with
the likes of me.
His deep voice sent a shiver through Ivy as it traveled from the phone to her ear.
“Ahem, if you’ve got something to say, say it. It’s late. What do you want?”
The moment Ivy had picked up the call, she felt nothing but concern for Balfour, not a trace of impatience.
Balfour, realizing this, felt a sense of satisfaction. No matter what, this woman would always open her heart to him.
“I want to see you. It’s as simple as that.”
Ivy fell silent, unsure of how to respond. She feared she might be reading too much into it. Could he just be joking?
She didn’t want to be the only one taking everything seriously anymore. After everything they’d been through, if she was the only one who cared, wouldn’t that be just pitiful?
