Chapter 2406
Alyssa woke up early today and, feeling somewhat fatigued, suggested that everyone leave, allowing her some space. She then took a short rest on Balfour’s sofa.
Upon returning, Balfour was met with this scene. His brow furrowed with concern as he approached Alyssa’s side.
“Grandma, if you were tired, why didn’t you go nap in my study? At your age, you shouldn’t be sleeping on the sofa. It could take a toll on your health! Quinton!”
Quinton entered the room at Balfour’s call. “What is it, Sir?”
“What’s going on here? Why didn’t you think to suggest that Grandma should rest in the study?”
Alyssa stirred from her rest, intercepting Balfour’s reprimand. “Now, don’t go scolding Quinton on my account. It was my choice to lay down here. He did offer your study, but I wanted to lounge on your sofa today.”
Balfour held his tongue after that.
“Alright, Quinton, you may return to your duties. I need to discuss something with Balfour here,” Alyssa said.
Once Quinton had left, Alyssa dropped her facade of nonchalance and expressed her worry.
“Did you just come from the hospital where Mara is? I can smell the antiseptics on you. How is she recovering?”
Balfour replied, “She had just woken up when I arrived. I brought up the matter of the spiked milk, and she became so agitated that she passed out again.”
Alyssa scoffed, “That girl faints at the drop of a hat, doesn’t she? Let me guess, she got worked up because she wouldn’t confess to tampering with the milk?”
Balfour’s gaze fell, his eyes masking his emotions. “Indeed, she did not confess.”
Alyssa snorted with contempt, “Of course, she wouldn’t. Admitting to it would shatter the pitiable image she’s crafted for herself in front of you.”
Balfour remained silent.
“Balfour, I’ve warned you and Ivy more than once. Mara’s schemes run deeper than both of you combined. What did you expect to gain by confronting her like that? It’s clear Mara has no intention of being your friend; she’s playing a deeper game.”
Alyssa had always had a more discerning eye than Balfour.
“Enough of that! Once she’s fully recovered, you need to send her back to her country,

“Grandma, let’s wait until she’s completely well before discussing her return. If I abandon her now, I’d be failing her late sister, wouldn’t 12 Balfour countered, a crease forming between his brows
