Chapter 2378
“Look here, Balfour, how on earth am I causing trouble? I’m just looking out for lvy! I wanted to check on her, but you and Dean kept interrupting me. Don’t you two worry about her fending for herself out there?”
The very thought of Ivy alone, cooking her own meals, doing her laundry just tugged at Alyssa’s heartstrings.
“Ivy’s just moved out for a bit, not left us for good. Why have you all turned so cold? Balfour, you better tell me what happened today. Otherwise, how could you possibly refuse to let me see my own granddaughter-in-law?”
Alyssa’s intuition was always spot-on, and Balfour was at a loss for words. He had planned to have Ivy video call Alyssa, ideally from his own phone.
That way, Alyssa would know he’d been to see her, but of course, life had to throw a wrench in the works just then.
“Granny, there’s so much going on at the office every day. If I had to report every little thing to you, I’d work myself to the bone. You want to see Ivy? Just pick up the phone and call her, for heaven’s sake. With technology these days, it’s a piece of cake. Even if you’re not up to speed, Grandpa can help you out, can’t he?”
“Tsk, are you blaming me now? I just want you and Ivy to spend more quality time together, to hurry up and give us a grandchild, that’s all. Not that we’re fixated on a boy a granddaughter would be just as wonderful. Dean and I would be over the moon either way.”
Both Alyssa and Dean were getting on in years, and with only Balfour to carry on the family name, they were eager to see him settle down.
He’d taken care of the business side of things early on, but starting a family was dragging
Before Ivy came into the picture, Balfour seemed to have zero interest in women, to the point where the elders wondered if he was even into girls at all.
But with Ivy, everything clicked back into place.
Finally having a granddaughter-in-law, the old couple cherished her dearly.
“Granny, you’re getting ahead of yourself. We’re young, and we’re not thinking about kids. just yet.”
After a few more words of caution, Alyssa suddenly sprang up from the couch.
Dean said, “At your age, could you maybe not jump up like that? Scared the living daylights out of me – thought something had happened.”

But Alyssa wasn’t having any of it.
“I can’t settle down until I see for myself. I’m heading over to Ivy’s dorm right now.”
Dean watched his whirlwind of a wife, not entirely in agreement.
“If they both don’t want you there, isn’t it a bit intrusive to just show up? Ivy moved out because of Ms. Lewis staying with us, right? The whole situation’s murky – it’s got to be weighing on her. If you show up now, with Ms. Lewis still at our place, it’s bound to upset Ivy.”
Alyssa knew he was speaking sense, but Balfour’s evasiveness only fueled her suspicions about today’s events.
If she didn’t get to the bottom of it, her mind wouldn’t rest easy all night.
Ivy never expected a visitor so late at night and asked cautiously, “Who’s there?”
“Ivy, it’s Alyssa, dear!”
Hearing Alyssa’s voice, Ivy couldn’t help but burst into tears.
Back when she was living with the Howards, no matter what happened, Alyss always there for her – unconditionally on her side, just like her own grandmothe
It moved her deeply and was something she cherished profoundly.
“Grandma, what brings you here at this hour?”
