Chapter 2309
But Alyssa and Dean were getting on in years; there was no way they could dash into the woods to join the search for the missing person.
They had no choice but to wait outside.
“Ms. Lewis! Ms. Lewis, are you out there?” called Ivy, her voice piercing the stillness of the evening.
Mara scowled in irritation upon hearing Ivy’s voice.
What was that wretched woman doing here?
Mara had no interest in being found by her, of all people.
Ivy was just putting on a show for Balfour to see, wasn’t she? All that affectation-did Ivy really think she couldn’t see right through it?
The very next moment, Ivy’s flashlight beam hit Mara square in the face. She immediately shut her eyes and clamped a hand over her mouth, desperate not to make a sound.
“Damn it all!”
“Ms. Lewis, if you’re out there, and there’s been some kind of misunderstanding, let’s clear it up. Come on out. It’s not safe to be in these woods for too long. Ms. Lewis, can you hear me? Come out!”
Ha! Misunderstanding? There was no misunderstanding. If Ivy was in the picture, then Mara might as well be invisible.
Mara watched from the shadows, repulsed by Ivy’s feigned concern. Such an actress sh was, playing her role even when there was no audience.
A true queen of drama!
“Ms. Lewis! Ms. Lewis-”
As if my name is yours to call, Mara thought bitterly.
Best to clear off quickly. Balfour was likely on his way back, and Mara was looking forward to some alone time with him. What was she even doing here?
“Ah-”
Ivy stumbled over a vine, tumbling to the ground. She clutched her ankle, hissing in pain.
Mara frowned. This was the scene she had been rehearsing in her mind, and now Ivy was stealing her act?
In agony and unassisted, Ivy managed to get up after a moment, gingerly avoiding putting weight on her injured foot. It throbbed with pain.

Chapter 2309
Feeling her ankle, Ivy hoped it was just a twist and not a fracture. If it was broken, she’d be a setback for the production crew.
Hopping on one foot, Ivy made her way to a nearby tree and leaned against it, trying to ease the pressure off her injury.
Suddenly, she heard Mr. Balfour’s voice calling through the woods.
“Mara-Mara-”
Ivy’s face lit up with hope as she looked in the direction of the voice. She was about to respond when there was a rustling from the area she had just searched.
Mara emerged from the trees and sprinted towards Balfour.
Was she there the whole time?
Ivy had called out so many times with no reply.
With a frown and in severe pain, Ivy couldn’t chase after them. She had no choice but to wait for their return.
Balfour stopped within the reach of Ivy’s flashlight, and Mara threw herself into his arms with an eagerness that left no doubts about her presence.
