The Kiss That Sparked it All Chapter 2276

Chapter 2276

Mara maintained a respectful smile as she spoke, “Oh, it’s no big deal. Balfour has been good to me for years. Taking care of you is the least I can do! You just go ahead and get on with your work, Balfour.”

As she mentioned Balfour’s care over the years, Alyssa felt a twinge of discomfort.

It was not that she felt Balfour should not look after his lifesaver’s sister but rather that

she disapproved of how it was done.

Despite the deep connections between Mara’s sister and Balfour back in the day, they always believed that repaying a debt was enough; there was no need to entangle more favors.

Yet for years, Balfour’s frequent trips to M State were unstoppable, and in the end, they just let him be.

If Mara harbored inappropriate feelings for Balfour, what was he supposed to do?

That was their real concern.

Now that Ivy had finally tied the knot with Balfour and they were starting their life together, Mara suddenly flew back from overseas.

Alyssa could not guess what Mara was scheming, but her instincts were on high alert.

That evening, Balfour settled Mara into the guest bedroom on the first floor and left once everything was in order.

With the room to herself, Mara finally relaxed, sinking comfortably into the bed.

She had already scoped out Balfour and Ivy’s master bedroom on the second floor.

The elderly couple’s room was also on the first floor; climbing stairs was inconvenient for their age.

It would not do to ask to tour their room brazenly, so she merely glanced in passing.

Mara was not in a rush; there was plenty of time ahead. Now that she was living under the same roof, she could take her time to plan her next moves.

She was confident she would not lose out to any woman, and winning over the old lady was just a matter of time.

When Balfour returned to Ivy’s hospital room, he found her curled under the covers, shrouded in her own world.

He gently lifted the blanket, only to see Ivy’s brow furrowed with worry even in sleep.

He reached out to smooth her forehead when the nurse, Elara, came in for a check-up.

Seeing Balfour there, Elara felt reassured. But as she left, she could not help but offer him some advice.

“Mr. Howard, if I may suggest, please pay extra attention to your wife’s mental health.

She doesn’t seem to be in a good state right now.”

Balfour’s guard went up, and he followed Elara to a quiet place for a more detailed discussion.

“What did you mean by what you said earlier?”

Elara bit her lip. “Mr. Howard, you probably understand the implications of my words better than I do.

You’ve seen how your wife curls up tight even in her sleep, covering herself with the blanket. These are signs of feeling very insecure.

I don’t know what your wife has been through, but her current state is worrisome.

If you can’t provide her with the security she needs, I fear things might take a turn for the worse.”

Elara had studied psychology before becoming a nurse, and her concern for Ivy was purely based on the distress she noticed.

Especially after Balfour left, Ivy seemed to hide her struggles behind resilience.

Thinking Balfour might be unaware, she decided to share her observations with him.

Balfour clenched his fists; he sensed Ivy’s unease but thought it was normal.

After all, who could remain calm after a brush with death?

“Are these reactions really not normal? What should I do?”
