Especially over someone like Diana, an actress who had not brought in much profit and seemed to be a magnet for trouble.

“So, Corben, you have no objections to how the police intend to handle this?” Balfour raised an eyebrow, surprised at the ease of the resolution.
Corben put on a show of integrity. “Rest assured, Mr. Howard, we certainly do not condone protecting problematic actresses. We at Starlight Entertainment might not be top-tier, but we never engage in criminal activities.”

Satisfied, Balfour smiled. “I should hope not.”
Corben exhaled in relief and, with a forced smile, prepared to spew some more flattery. But Balfour had already strode past him with long, confident steps.
Unperturbed by his lack of finesse, Corben scratched at his thinning hair and followed Balfour into the police station.
Diana had been a thorn in the side of the police during her statement, insisting she would only speak in the presence of her lawyer. Without one, she remained silent, hindering the officers’ investigation.
Corben’s appearance was meant to deliver the harsh truth-no lawyer would come to advocate for her. It was time to abandon any hope of that.
Upon seeing Corben, Diana lunged forward. “Boss, you’re here to bail me out, right? I’ve been framed! Where’s the lawyer? I asked them to call you to bring the company lawyer. What good are you here without one?”
Corben’s face darkened as Diana approached. He had never expected this woman to bring such trouble to the company. At his age, he was still forced to grin and bear it in front of Balfour-all thanks to her.
“Let go of that fantasy,” he said coldly. “The moment you messed up, I had the lawyers terminate your contract. An actress like you is too much for our company to handle. It’s time for you to look elsewhere.”
