Chapter 2047
The agent winked at her assistant, who immediately caught on with a knowing grin.
“C’mon, Giselle, you’re the fairy godmother of the industry. There’s no rush to reinvent yourself,” the assistant coaxed with a smile.
Despite their tag-team encouragement, Giselle could not shake off the feeling of unease. The thought of being upstaged by a newcomer like Ivy gnawed at her she could not rest until she had put this upstart in her place.
“I’ll show her. She’s a novice. Let’s see if she can hold a candle to me!”
The morning shoot wrapped up, and Ivy, having no scenes in the afternoon, decided to head back to the hotel to relax and review her script.
Stepping out of the set, Ivy saw Giselle waiting by a sleek SUV, her face breaking into a smile. “Ivy, over here. I need a word with
you
Ivy was not fond of Giselle, nor did she wish to entangle herself more than necessary.
But there she was, summoning her with such warmth in front of everyone. Ignoring her would stir the rumor mill.
After a moment’s hesitation, Ivy approached with a forced smile. “What’s up, Giselle?”
Giselle beamed, taking Ivy’s hand with feigned affection. “Just got back from a hospital visit and bumped into you. How about we grab a bite together?”
“No, thanks, Giselle. I really should get back and check out the script,” Ivy declined without a beat.
Giselle’s face fell into a pout. “Why do you keep turning me down, Ivy? We’re friends, aren’t we? You’re hurting my feelings.”
Cornered and with all eyes on her, Ivy reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Giselle’s smile returned to full force. “There we go, that’s settled. Hop in.”
Ivy reluctantly climbed into Giselle’s SUV.
During the drive, Giselle acted like they were old pals, chatting about the ins and outs of film making. “Be careful on your first shoot, darling. Don’t get hurt. And hey, Colton can be a tough cookie. Don’t take it to heart if he gives you a hard time.”
Her words seemed caring, but they carried a mocking tone under the surface.
Giselle ordered for the both of them at the restaurant, not bothering to ask about Ivy’s preferences. “Have you been here before?”
Ivy glanced around and shook her head. “No, I haven’t. Why?”
Giselle feigned surprise. “Oh, I thought Balfour might have brought you here. I had a hard time with the local fare while filming, so Balfour opened this place just to cater to my tastes.”
Ivy was taken aback, then responded dryly, “That’s quite thoughtful of Balfour.”
“Yes, he’s always been good to me. Just that I’ve been focusing on my career, so I haven’t given him an answer.”
An answer to what?
