Chapter 1864
Baber let out a piercing shriek. “Ah!”
Patricia tightened her grip on Baber’s hair. “So, you’re all grown up now, huh?! You’ve now started lying to Mommy, huh?! What a naughty boy!”
Baber shivered from head to toe. “No… I didn’t…”
Patricia threw her head back and laughed. “No? You dare deny it?! Do you really think I have no clue about what’s been happening with the Blanchets these past few years? Theo hasn’t been home at all. He ran off with another woman! Ellinor, that little vixen, thought she could steal Theo away from me and live happily ever after?! Look at her now! She was alone in that big old Blanchet mansion for years! Serves her right!”
Baber felt as if his hair was being yanked out by the roots. His scalp was throbbing with pain. “It… hurts.”
Patricia showed no mercy; she tightened her grip even more. “Good! This is your punishment for lying to your mother. Let’s see if you dare lie to me again!”
While Patricia was intimidating Baber, Theo and Ellinor arrived at the riverside dock.
The dock was deserted in the dark night, and there was no road ahead.
This was where the GPS had led them.
Theo and Ellinor got out of the car and looked around but found no clues.
Ellinor gasped as she stared at the vast river. “After he called the house, he must have thrown the phone in the river. He’s very careful.”
Theo agreed while turning to look at Ellinor. “We can keep investigating. Whoever took Baber must have a reason. He won’t hurt Baber before he achieves his goal.”
Ellinor was overwhelmed with worry. “What does he want?”
Although Baber was the oldest of the four children, he was sensitive and easily scared.
Patricia abused him when he was younger, leaving him with deep psychological scars. He often woke up from nightmares, and he only got better as he grew older. Now that he had been kidnapped, he must be terrified.
Theo crouched down beside her. His heart ached as he pulled her into his arms. “I’ll bring Baber back safe and sound. I promise.”
Ellinor sniffled, then suddenly a thought struck her, and she looked up at Theo. “Could it be Patricia?”
Theo paused. “Her?”
Ellinor clung to Theo’s arm. “Yes! Veronica said she recently saw Patricia, and Chase found out that Patricia was actually released. It’s highly possible she is behind Baber’s kidnapping! Quick, we need to go to the Howard Mansion!”
With that, Ellinor got up and ran to the car.
Theo followed suit without questioning further. He got in the car and drove away from the dock, heading towards the Howard Mansion.
At the Howard Mansion.
Today was the day McNeil was discharged from the hospital. The Howard family had dinner together and then retired to their respective rooms.
Dean and Alyssa went to bed early, and McNeil, still recovering from his illness, also went to rest,
Byran, although full of energy, retreated to his room to chat with his girlfriend over the phone.
