Chapter 1749
Then she bent down to scoop up her daughter, Layla, and asked, “Layla, sweetie, have you heard anything about your big brother, Baber, at preschool recently?”
Layla was not as oblivious as her brother, Adrian. She was perceptive and noticed many unusual details.
Upon hearing her mother’s question, Layla became curious. “Mommy, how did you know about the rumors about Baber?”
Just as she had suspected.
Ellinor was right. Earlier, while checking the surveillance cameras, she heard that chubby little boy calling Baber an orphan and claiming that he was adopted. He also said that everyone at preschool knew about it, so she knew something was up.
Adrian and Layla were unaware of the incident where Baber had hit someone.
“Mommy just heard about it. Layla, what have you heard? Tell Mommy everything; don’t leave out any details.”
Layla glanced at Adrian, seeming to hesitate about whether to speak or not.
Her daughter’s hesitation made Ellinor frown. “What’s wrong? Are you now keeping secrets from Mommy too? Why aren’t you talking to me?”
Layla quickly shook her head. “No, Mommy… I just didn’t want you to be upset.”
Ellinor sternly said, “I’ll be upset if you don’t tell the truth.”
Layla blinked her eyes before coming clean. “Okay, Mommy, I’ll tell you everything. The kids at preschool have been saying that Baber isn’t your real child. They keep saying that he’s a discarded orphan. They also say his real mother is an immoral woman and that he carries a nasty virus, so everyone should stay away from him.”
Ellinor’s brow furrowed. Who would spread such vile rumors at a preschool?! No wonder Baber had been off recently!
This was absolutely outrageous!
Baber was indeed not her biological child, but she had always treated him as her own, without any insincerity.
She loved Baber just as much as she loved Layla and Adrian, not a bit less.
Baber had been adopted from abroad by Theo. Being of mixed race, he had an exotic look, so there’s no way they could lie to him about being their biological child.
Baber was an exceptionally bright child. He was aware that he was different from his siblings, and he had a particularly sensitive mind due to the hardships he faced at a young age.
How could he not be bothered by the malicious rumors at preschool?!
She had no idea who Baber’s biological mother was or what she did for a living.
How could anyone else know?!
Growing angrier by the second, Ellinor asked her two children, “Have either of you comforted Baber?”
Layla and Adrian exchanged glances before shaking their heads.
Layla explained, “Mommy, we wanted to comfort Baber, but he ignored us all day. He acted as if he couldn’t hear us when we tried to talk to him this morning. Mommy, Baber might not want to stay with us anymore. I think…”
