Chapter 1707
However, he still missed the time when he was an only child.
Back then, his dad was still at home, and his mom would only fuss over him.
It was blissful.
That was when he first experienced the warmth of a family. But not long after, his mother left him because she was pregnant and had to give birth to his siblings.
Even though he didn’t fully understand why his mom had to leave, he clearly felt that he was less important to her than the child in her womb.
Indeed, how could he compete with the children in his mother’s belly?
How could an adopted child compare to a biological child?
He was simply overestimating himself. He thought too much of himself by thinking that he held the same status as his siblings.
Today, he realized that whenever the snacks were limited, he was the one who wouldn’t get any.
Actually, he didn’t necessarily need to eat that bag of snacks, but he still felt disappointed.
His heart was heavy, conflicted, and insecure. He longed for attention, yet he felt that he didn’t deserve to hope for it.
Baber’s mind was in disarray as he sat at his dad’s desk and flipped through the comic books his dad had bought him. He couldn’t focus on the books because his head was about to explode.
Later, he put down the comic books and returned to his room, still in his depressed state.
That room was a nursery that his dad had prepared for him a long time ago. When his mom returned, he started to sleep with his siblings in his mom’s room, rarely sleeping on his own.
Now that he understood his place, he thought it would be better to sleep alone here in the future, so as not to take up space and compete for his mother’s love with his siblings.
Even though he knew he was not valued, he still cherished this home because he had nowhere else to go.
He didn’t even know who his biological parents were or what their names were.
He lay alone on the bed, crying himself to sleep.
Twenty minutes later, Ellinor drove back home. She called the housekeeper to unload the stuff from her car while she went upstairs with two bags of snacks for Baber.
She had gone shopping. Earlier, Baber seemed upset when he couldn’t have any snacks, so she bought him two bags and also bought some ingredients
for dinner.
She quickly went upstairs to the study room and found that Baber was not there. Ellinor turned around and asked the housekeeper if they had seen Baber.
The housekeepers had been busy cleaning and hadn’t noticed Baber going back to his room. They all shook their heads, saying they didn’t know.
Just as Ellinor was about to take the snacks and check her own room, she thought better of it, knowing that her other two children would want to gobble them up as soon as they saw them.
Baber was never possessive about his food. He would probably let his siblings have most of it. So, she left the snacks with the maid and went in.
She wished she hadn’t. As soon as she entered, she saw her daughter and son wrestling over a toy.
“Give it to me!”
“It’s mine!”
“So what? I want to play with it!”
“I won’t let you!”
Seeing that the two children were both refusing to back down, Ellinor rubbed her temple in exasperation as she cleared her throat. “Have you two forgotten what I said before I went out?”
After hearing their mom’s voice, the two little ones froze and looked towards Ellinor.
Then, as if it were a race, the two children suddenly let go of each other and ran towards Ellinor to tattle.
“Mommy! She hit me first!”
“Mommy! He hit me first!”
