Chapter 1691
Byran quirked an eyebrow. “Did we just overhear Sophia talking to the doctor about something called seed extraction? With my sister and Theo alone together, could it be…?”
Ida, having overheard Sophia’s conversation with the white-coated man, had already guessed what was going on. Now, her only concern was for her safety. “Mr. Howard, what do you think we should do?”
Dr. Tam unlocked the door to the special examination room, revealing a dimly lit interior with the curtains drawn.
On the screen, a blush-inducing movie was being projected, with the male and female leads each making sounds that were unfit for polite company.
Upon entering and seeing this, Sophia immediately wore an expression of discomfort. With wrinkled brows, she scanned the room for Marcus, but he was nowhere to be found.
“Dr. Tam, what’s going on? Where’s my husband? Didn’t you say a nurse was accompanying him here? Where is she? Why is no one here?”
Dr. Tam was equally puzzled. “Um… I’m not sure what’s happened. The door was locked, so there should be someone inside.”
Sophia became impatient. “Dr. Tam, what kind of operation are you running here?! I trusted you with my husband, and you lost him! Could it be that your nurse ran off with my husband?”
Dr. Tam was visibly uncomfortable. “Impossible! What would she gain from running away with your husband? She’d be breaking the law! Ms. Sophia, please calm down and give me a moment. I’ll try to contact our nurse.”
With that, Dr. Tam pulled out his phone to make the call, only to be met with an automated message indicating that the other party’s phone was switched off.
Off?,
What on earth was going on?!
Dr. Tam was now also feeling a sense of unease.
Sophia, watching Dr. Tam hold his phone without uttering a word, urged him on impatiently. “Did you get through or not?”
With an embarrassed look, Dr. Tam replied, “Ms. Sophia, our nurse seems to have…”
After hearing this, Sophia’s face fell. “What the hell?! Where have you hidden my husband?! This is outrageous! Wait, I’m calling the police right now!”
In her panic, Sophia pulled out her phone to dial 911.)
Dr. Tam was flustered. He was afraid that this incident would affect his job. “Ms. Sophia, please wait. Your husband can’t have disappeared.”
Sophia ignored him and proceeded to dial the number. However, just at that moment, a cold voice rang out. “I’m here.”
Sophia paused as the operator’s voice came through from the other end of the line. “Hello, this is 911, what’s your emergency?”
Whirling around, she saw a man sitting quietly in a wheelchair. The corner curtain was fluttering in the wind, so perhaps it had obscured him earlier.
The room was dimly lit, and it wasn’t surprising that she hadn’t noticed him.
Dr. Tam sighed in relief. “Ms. Sophia, your husband is right there. Please hang up the emergency call.”
After seeing her husband safe and sound, Sophia quickly ended the call and rushed to him. “Marcus, are you alright?”
Marcus, his face grim and cold, arched an eyebrow at her, his tone sarcastic. “You’re the one who brought me here for a check-up, weren’t you? Were you expecting something to happen to
me?”
Sophia was taken aback, feeling truly at a loss for words.
