Chapter 1645
After stepping out, they settled into Balfour’s SUV to wait for Ellinor and Adrian, only to spot the man they’d seen dining on the ground floor of the restaurant.
Veronica was anything but calm. She’d almost accepted that she might never see her brother again, and now, seeing him alive and well, she could hardly believe her own eyes. She wanted to reach out and touch him, just to be sure.
“Didn’t you all see? That’s my brother! My brother’s back! Let me go! I need to ask him where he’s been these past few years!”
Ida, adjusting her gold-rimmed glasses, reminded her in a voice of reason. “We’ve all seen him. But before you go in there, why don’t you take a look at who’s sitting across from him?”
Following Ida’s advice, Veronica took in the rest of the scene and spotted the woman sitting across from her brother. It was the insufferable Sophia, which only made her grit her teeth in
anger.
“Hmph! I knew it! I knew it had to be Sophia’s doing! She’s been hiding my brother for three years! That witch! Just wait till I get my hands on her!”
Belinda, seeing her uncle again, was also overwhelmed but maintained a cooler head than Veronica. She tried to placate her.
“Don’t rush! Ellinor just texted us to pull back. She must have noticed my uncle, too. Let’s wait for Ellinor to come out, understand the situation, and plan our next move. Didn’t you notice? my uncle isn’t sitting in a dining chair, but in a wheelchair.”
Veronica had noticed, and it was precisely because she had that she was so eager to confront Sophia.
How did a hale and hearty man end up in a wheelchair?
It was Sophia’s fault! It had to be!
In order to keep her brother by her side, she’d actually crippled him.
How could such a venomous woman exist?!
Veronica couldn’t hold back any longer. She was about to open the door and storm in when Balfour coughed coldly. “Enough! Keep it down!”
Startled, Veronica sensed the tension in the air and reluctantly sat back down. She turned to Balfour, who sat in the car as steady as a rock. “You and my brother have always been at odds, so of course you don’t care about him.”
With a cold expression, Balfour said, “I don’t care about your brother, but I can’t ignore Ellinor’s happiness. Now that your brother has shown up, I won’t let him disappear again. For now, we wait for Ellinor to come out and figure things out. If you want to barge in and mess everything up, then go ahead.”
Veronica finally calmed down. She wiped the tears from her eyes and managed to control her impulsive behavior, though she couldn’t control her emotions.
From Balfour’s reaction, Ida sensed something was amiss. “Mr. Howard, it seems you knew about Theo’s return all along.”
Balfour nodded in affirmation.
Ida frowned. “So our boss knew too?”
Balfour gave a slight nod. “Yes, they’ve already met.”
Everyone was taken aback.
Belinda asked in confusion. “If Ellinor and my uncle have already met, why didn’t my uncle come home with her? Could it be that… my uncle has really fallen for that Sophia?”
