Chapter 1577
Layla nestled into Ellinor’s arms as her small face scrunched up in frustration. “Mommy, we’re not going home for dinner again today? Great-grandmother will be so sad.”
Ellinor understood what her daughter meant. Her great-grandmother would be in the kitchen every day, diligently preparing dinner, anticipating their return so that the family could enjoy a meal together.
She gently stroked her daughter’s head. “That’s okay. You can eat a little less here, so you can eat with your great-grandmother when we get home.”
Layla was a bit tom. “But I saw you order so many of my favorite dishes. What should I do?”
Ellinor was both amused and exasperated at her daughter’s dilemma. “What can you do? You’ll have to figure it out.”
Layla furrowed her brow. She looked very troubled. If she ate too much here, she wouldn’t be able to eat with her great-grandmother when they got back. And she had to keep her figure, too. She finally decided that she would only take one bite of each dish. Just enough to taste, but not enough to fill her up.
Tristan sat next to Ellinor, more relaxed than before but still not very talkative, especially when strangers were around.
Between Ida and Byran sat Baber in a high chair, which made Byran a little annoyed. Although he liked Baber, he wanted to be next to Ida.
So he cleared his throat in a way that seemed casual. “Ida, Baber said he wants to sit next to my sister. Can you come sit next to me?”
Baber’s eyes widened. Confusion was written all over his face. When did he say that? Why was his uncle telling fibs?
Ida was busy sending Chase the restaurant location when she heard Byran’s request. She glanced at Byran and then at the bewildered Baber, understanding the situation.
“Baber, do you want to switch seats with me?”
Just as Baber was about to shake his head, he got poked by his uncle and quickly changed to nodding.
After seeing Baber nod, Ida gave the straight-faced Byran another look, said nothing, got up, and swapped places with the child, moving Baber’s high chair next to
Ellinor.
Just as she sat down at her new spot, a man’s hand reached out from under the table, landing on her leg.
Ida frowned. She looked down at the mischievous hand and gave it a hard smack like she was swatting a fly, trying to make him behave.
But, to her surprise, Byran used her smack as an opportunity to grab her hand..
Ida instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but Byran not only didn’t let go; he also sneakily intertwined their fingers under the table and stuffed her hand into the pocket of his hoodie.
Ida’s lips twitched, again finding this young man childish. He was just like a naughty boy who was secretly acting out behind the teacher’s back during class. However, she was too lazy to refuse and thought it was a waste of time to argue with him. So she let him hold her hand while she continued to scroll on her phone/ with the other hand.
Ellinor didn’t notice their little interaction; her attention was focused on her three children, but Bartlett did.
He squinted his eyes and chuckled. He couldn’t help but sigh. “I’m so envious.”
Ellinor raised an eyebrow at him. “What are you suddenly envious of?”
Bartlett glanced at Ida and Byran. “As a single man, I can’t help but envy the sweet little couple.”
