Chapter 1397
“Ellinor, it’s me.”
The voice on the other end of the phone wasn’t Theo’s, but Collin’s.
Ellinor furrowed her brows as her suspicions grew. “Collin, why are you answering the phone? Where’s Theo?”
On the other side, Collin was standing in a guest room at Thaddeus Manor, anxiously watching as several doctors treated Theo’s injuries and cast his legs.
Theo’s face was pale, and his forehead was covered in a sheen of sweat as he endured the pain.
Collin had been with Theo for many years and had never seen him beaten up like this. It upset him greatly.
But if he were to confront Thaddeus now, all the pain Theo had endured would be for nothing.
Theo was not the type to let Thaddeus strut around in front of him, and Theo’s tolerance was solely for the sake of coming to an agreement with Sophia and successfully annulling the marriage certificate. Only then could he go back and explain things to Ellinor.
Remembering what Theo had said when he handed him his coat, Collin took a deep breath and forced a casual tone. “Ellinor, Mr. Blanchet is very tired. He’s asleep.” Asleep?
Ellinor felt like something was off. It should be morning in M State. It was broad daylight.
But considering that Theo just flew over and was probably still jet-lagged from the twenty-plus hour flight, he must have been tired.
“Have you guys arrived at Sophia’s place yet?”
Collin, feeling guilty, tried his best to lie without giving anything away. “Not yet. Mr. Blanchet is resting in the car. Ellinor, do you want to talk to Mr. Blanchet? Should I wake him up?”
Ellinor hesitated before saying, “No, let him sleep a little longer. Have him call me back when he wakes up.”
“Okay, Ellinor. Don’t worry. Mr. Blanchet is fine.”
“Alright. As long as he’s okay.”
Collin’s assurance made Ellinor feel slightly relieved, and she then hung up. After turning around, she saw Baber had fallen asleep while holding the bottle of milk.
She put down her phone and touched her chest. Reminding herself not to be so sensitive, not to overthink, and to trust Theo.
He had promised her he would come back, and he would.
On the other side, Collin hung up the phone and let out a huge sigh of relief.
He had been incredibly nervous. He was afraid that Ellinor would notice that something was off.
Ellinor was close to giving birth. She couldn’t handle any more stress. If she knew Theo was injured, she would worry.
Luckily, he didn’t slip up.
But he was still unsure about how to handle it when Ellinor would inevitably call, looking for Theo again.
Collin put away Theo’s phone and looked up to find that the doctors had finished treating Theo’s injuries and were briefing him on the patient’s condition. They said Theo’s injuries were severe.
Despite the pain all over his body, luckily, no critical areas were hit, and he should be able to fully recover after a few months of rest.
Collin nodded in understanding and signaled for the doctors to leave.
When they left, Sophia and Thaddeus’ wife, Bertha, who had been waiting outside, came in.
Since they were both women, they had to leave while the male patient was undressing for treatment to avoid embarrassment.
Now that the doctors had left, indicating that the injuries had been treated, Sophia and Bertha entered the room.
