Chase greeted him with a smile. “Mr. Howard, you still up this late?”
Balfour shifted his gaze from Ellinor and Baber, who had already disappeared upstairs, back to Chase and said seriously, “Even if you find any info on Thaddeus,
don’t tell her.”
Chase paused slightly. “Why?”
“We both know what kind of person Thaddeus is. There’s no need for any digging. If you find out about his past deeds and tell her, do you think Ellinor can peacefully carry a baby? It’s clear as day that she’s worried sick about Theo. So, for her peace of mind, keep it under wraps, even if you find out anything. The more she knows, the more she’ll worry.”
Chase squinted and chuckled. “Never thought you’d be so concerned about her, Mr. Howard. I remember in the past how you always had a beef with her because of your half-sister. Compared to now, you were like a totally different person.”.
Balfour felt a bit ashamed when it came to his past; he could tell that Chase was taking a jab at him.
But he wasn’t mad; he remembered his past mistakes.
It didn’t matter if he was being ribbed or even insulted. He deserved it.
Ellinor still hadn’t forgiven him or accepted him as her brother.
Sigh…
“Don’t worry, I remember my past mistakes. 1 will make it up to her and take good care of her. You two should head back. Remember what I said. Don’t tell her anything you find out.”.
Chase nodded. “I hope you can be a good brother, Mr. Howard.”
With that, he waved his hand and left the Howard family’s house with Ida.
Just as they stepped outside, they heard the sound of hurried footsteps coming from the stairs.
Without looking up, Balfour knew it was his brother coming down.
“Why are you running down now? They’ve already left.”
Byran ran to the window and peered outside, watching Ida’s retreating figure. His face was serious, and his fists were clenched tightly, as if he were making a
-serious decision.
After noticing Byran’s lost look, Balfour couldn’t help but worry for him. “Come on. Instead of wasting time, you should study hard and become independent. Only then will you have the right to chase the girl you like. Otherwise, what can you offer her?”
His brother’s words were harsh. Byran watched Ida get in the car and then reluctantly turned around to face his brother.
“Bro, I want to study abroad.”
Balfour was about to go upstairs when he heard this. He was taken aback and turned around. “What did you just say?”
Byran looked up, showing rare determination. “I said I want to study abroad. Remember the school you found for me? I’m ready to go.”
Balfour had been disappointed when Byran failed the entrance exam and no longer expected him to get into a good college on his own. After all, he had been a slacker since childhood and was way behind in his studies. It was hard for him to catch up in their local education system.
So, Balfour found a fully enclosed elite school overseas, hoping to send him there.
But when Byran found out that it was a fully enclosed school, he was very resistant. He refused to go and even threatened to kill himself.
In this situation, Balfour couldn’t force him, so he had to put the plan on hold.
But now he was suggesting it himself?
Balfour confirmed it again. “Are you sure you want to go? Think it through. If you regret it later, I won’t go soft and bring you back. You’re an adult, and you have to take responsibility for your decisions.”
Byran looked at him determinedly and said firmly, “I’ve thought it through. I really want to go. I won’t regret it.”
