“Exactly!” Bill mistook Frank’s confusion for guilt and was convinced he saw through Frank, rearing his chin as he gloated, “My father is the chief of Zamri’s Uplake Hospital, and it’s a subsidiary owned by Gene Pearce, the richest man of the east coast.”
“What?!”
The students turned toward Bill in shock once he mentioned Gene.
Scary! His father was actually a subordinate of the richest man of the east coast!
It was now obvious that he had the influence to invite all those bigwigs…
However, Bill was himself all too aware that Gene owned hundreds of other hospitals, and his father only owned one of a modest scale.
It sounded amazing, but his father was no more than Gene’s lapdog, to be kicked to the curb with just a word from the man.
And for Riverton bigwigs sitting on the stage at the moment, they were all too used to lapdogs barking up the pecking order. The son of a hospital chief? What even gave him the right to even talk to Riverton’s senator?
Even if Bill’s father had some influence in Zamri, it was not the case statewide in Riverton.
However, even if it was no special privilege, anyone would be intimidated by the mere mention of Gene’s name.
As such, Bill’s name-dropping proved effective, with the naive students all suddenly worshiping Bill as if he were Gene’s son.
Frank, however, saw through Bill’s ruse. It was no different from a rat bragging to a lion that it was friends with a dog, even demanding the lion to bend over when it was overreaching all the time.
“Really? You know Gene Pearce?” Frank smiled in amusement.

“Of course Who do you think you are, lying that you called these people here?” Bill snorted, before turning to Winter. “Your brother’s really not that impressive, girl.”
As most of the med students turned to Winter, she felt like she was sitting on a carpet of needles.
She always hated standing out, and her class presentations were basically murder to her.
And now that her fellow students were mocking her and leering at her in disdain on top of that, she was ashen pale.
“Tut, tut. Did you hear that? Professor Lawrence is actually saying that he invited those bigwigs.”
“Come on, be understanding. Who wouldn’t want to show off in front of their baby sister?”
“Well, he’s unlucky that he ran into
the actual bigwig. Bill obviously invited them over, and he ended up exposing Professor Lawrence
because he sat right beside Winter… Oh this is killing me.”
“I didn’t think Professor Lawrence was that vain. I’m really not a fan now.”
Winter was left gripping her robes even as she listened to the other students debating and mocking.
She wanted to defend Frank, but no words were coming out.
In her desperation, she shot Frank an accusing look and huffed. “It’s fine if you’re busy and can’t make it, but you shouldn’t lie. Now everyone hears you…”
Frank’s expression turned icy when he saw Winter’s desperation.
He was going to see how shameless Bill can be just to mess with him more. But since he would incite the mob and harass Winter, Frank had no reason to back. He would expose this lying prick right now!
