Shutting the laptop, Frank glared at Clarity. “What the hell do you want?”
“Nothing. I like you, that’s all!” Clarity beamed, leaving Frank even more frustrated.
“Hmph.”
Frank ignored her and turned to leave.
“Hey, wait!”
Clarity caught his wrist and flashed an apologetic smile. “Calm down. Don’t you want to know who I am, Donn Lawrence?”
“What?!” Frank turned right then. “You know my name?! Speak! Who are you?!”
“Well…”
Clarity shook her head mysteriously. “I’m a displaced vagabond like you.”
Frank charged his Five-Peat Archaeus right then, ready to attack-since she refused to go along when he was nice, he just had to get tough!
But even as Clarity took a step back, she was beaming charmingly. “Oh, calm down! How impatient can you get? Well, since you’re so eager to find out, I guess I can tell you… I go by many names, so which should I tell you? Oh, right.”
Suddenly, the air around Clarity changed, and the bewitching lady was an Ascendant rank with a death aura swirling around her, smiling faintly. “You can call me Juno Enigma.”
“Juno Enigma…” Frank repeated, before snapping, “Why do you keep approaching me?!”
“Because lye taken an interest in you,” Juno purred, suddenly that bewitching maiden again as she tapped her red lips. “I’m serious. I swear it.”
Her words left Frank taken aback, surprised that she was serious.
Still, he soon snorted. “Did you think I’m stupid enough to buy your lies?”
Juno was clearly upset this time, even shooting Frank an accusing look and snorting. “You’re such a terrible man. Rejecting a beauty like me, and worse of all, suspecting that I have ulterior motives? Don’t forget who gave you the information to save Vicky Turnbull-or should I elaborate on what would have happened to her if not for me?”
Frank’s breath left his lungs, but he had to admit that Juno was right.
“What’s in it for you?” he asked, calming down but still wary.
“I just don’t want you to be upset.” Juno grinned broadly. “As a new mistress, shouldn’t I appease the legal wives first?’
“What? Hold on…” Frank held up a
hand, caught off guard by Juno’s et
weird logic, though a hunch soon came to mind. “You approached Helen with a proposition because…”
“Of course.” Juno shrugged innocently. “Just currying the favor of the most senior member of the harem.”
The death aura around Frank dispersed right then.
He had no idea what Juno was planning, but he was sure that she had no ill will, or he would have been able to tell.
