“What?!”
The martial artist closest to Zorn could not react in time as Zorn’s fist struck him.
His head exploded like a watermelon right then, leaving a gory sight of redness.
“What?! He’s Ascendant rank?!”
The other martial artist around Zorn could immediately sense that something was wrong.
After all, Ascendant ranks were more than superior against Birthright ranks, with their highly condensed pure vigor that they wielded freely.
Naturally, there were freaks such as Frank whom that rule did not apply to-he was only full-fledged Birthright rank, but most Ascendant ranks would have a hard time against him.
Only peak Ascendant ranks would be able to force Frank to play his trump cards, and that was thanks to his regression three years ago. Thanks to improving up to full-fledged Birthright rank twice, Frank’s pure vigor was more abundant and more condensed that even some Ascendant ranks would not compare.
And now, Frank himself was hidden on the other end of the hallway, quietly observing as Zorn fused animus and anima to go on a rampage.
Frank actually frowned as he watched the man handily dispatch two Birthright ranks-the Dyadese form was really strong. None of the martial artists stood a chance against Zorn now, and if he was allowed free rein, he would kill Gene too.
However, Frank had no intention to fight just yet, because he had his own plans in mind.
It was true what they say about a friend in need, but meddling now would make him appear impetuous and impertinent, since he was not Gene’s subordinate.
Nonetheless, Zorn killed two more martial artists in no time at all.
He had a bleeding head in each hand as he strode toward Gene with a savage smile. “You will pay with your life, Gene!”
“Stop him!”
The martial artist all charged toward Zorn without an ounce of self-preservation, intent on taking him down by using numbers like they did earlier.
To their dismay, Zorn was
unstoppable and killed everyone in his way, unleashing blasts of pure vigor from his palm. The entire building rumbled even as he killed any martial artist in front and behind.
him.
Screams resounded and gore ensued until he took out the last martial artist standing.
Wiping the blood off his face, Zorn flashed a barbaric grin at Gene. “You wanted to kill me, didn’t you? But it seems the men you’ve brought aren’t up to task!”
“I was pressed for time-they were all I can bring,” Gene said calmly even as he watched Zorn slowly approach him.
In fact, he did not try to run or fight
and actually stared at Zorn with composure before shaking his head in disappointment. “If I had more time, I’d bring more. What a pity…”
“Pity? Not really?” Zorn kept grinning. “The same thing would happen even if you brought more.”
“You might be right. Anyway, I have one last thing to ask.”
Gene appeared hesitant but calmly spoke, “Mr. Lawrence might arrive soon, and he’d be asking for you to transfer the land deeds which you’ye won at that tender days ago. It’d be worth nothing in your hands anyway-it would be better to just selt it. It’s an agreement I had with him yesterday, so I’d ask that you
transfer those land deeds to
Lanecorp even if you kill me.
Consider it my last request.”
Zorn’s expression turned cool—even if it was a last request, the way Gene spoke to him was no different from the way he always ordered him around.
“You still think I serve you? Even now?” Zorn asked icily.
“Certainly.” Gene shrugged. “I value honor above all else, and Pearce Group will still be around even after I’m gone.”
