“Freeload off you for three years?”
Frank was certainly amused by the idea, but he was not bothered to stoop to verbal fencing against Cindy.
Instead, he turned to Helen with a serious look, intent on asking for her opinion.
Helen was silent for a while, but she soon said quietly, “I don’t know what happened to you that you’d think that, Frank… But I’m telling you in no uncertainty not to think like that ever again! I’ll never leave you, and no one can stop me!”
Then, shaking off Cindy’s hand, she snapped coldly, “This is an order, Cindy. Go back to Riverton and tell my mom not to worry about me. As for you, I know you’re upset about being dumped, but neither me nor Frank are your punching bag, and Lanecorp doesn’t need garbage like you who doesn’t know anything but struts around all high and mighty.”
“What?!” Cindy stumbled backward in shock. “What did you say, Helen…?”
“I called you garbage!” Helen snapped. “You don’t get to criticize Frank, not when you lost the ruby his father gave me! And do you want me to list all the other things that you’ve done?!” Seeing that Helen was dead serious-even furious-Cindy was left shaking in frustration.
Glancing between Helen and Frank, she snapped, “Aunt Gina and I only want the best for you, but you’d rather stay with that jinx?! Aren’t you afraid of getting killed?!”
“I can die happy, as long as I’m with Frank!” Helen retorted proudly.
“F-Fine! I get it now. You two are… Whatever!” Cindy stormed off, at a loss for words and unable to even manage a single expletive.
It was only after watching Cindy leave that Frank came to his senses.
However, Helen’s rage had yet to subside.
Wheeling on Frank, she snapped menacingly, “Don’t you ever talk like that to me again, you hear me?!”
Seeing that she was in her girlboss mode, Frank raised a brow and asked gingerly, “O-Or what?”
“O-Or I’ll cut your wages!” Helen snorted and stormed off.
“Ah, my wages…” Frank scratched his head, smiling in wry amusement.
It seemed that Helen really loved her job, threatening Frank with his salary.
Still, it was clear that Helen could not find a reason and came up with a ridiculous one instead, embarrassing herself even after she said it. After all, a wage cut was really no threat to Frank.
As for the girlboss, she appeared more like a grumpy wife after her grumpy threat.
“Pfft… So you’d die happy as long as you’re with me?” Frank smiled,
feeling warmth unfurling within. nes
as he came to understand Helen’s heart.

However, just as they got into the car and were ready to leave, Frank suddenly saw several luxury cars speeding down the road and stopping near them. S
He watched them warily but soon realized that they were not after him.
In fact, Frank was at once alert when he spotted a familiar figure alighting-it was Gene Pearce.
Just as he was going to get out and ask Gene what was happening, he watched as a large group of martial artists, ranging from vigor wielders to Birthright rank individuals alighted too.
Remembering what had happened just now, Frank connected the dots and realized with a start.
Gene did not betray him-something else was happening here.
