“F-Frank Lawrence?!”
Victor remembered right then.
His extended family was holding an online conference, and Emilio had made it especially clear as he showed Victor a photo.
“This young man is called Frank Lawrence,” Emilio explained, “and he resides in Riverton, not far from Zamri. That’s why I’m concerned you might run into him… but remember, the entire family is not to mess with him! If you do, you’ll be punished according to family rules!”
Victor flinched even as he came to his senses and studied Frank while remembering the photo he saw.
There was no mistaking this was Frank Lawrence!
A sheet of sweat trickled down Victor’s back right then.
Even if he had no idea why Emilio would be so concerned about Frank, the only thing he knew was that messing with Frank meant violating family rules!
And when that happened…
Victor flinched right then, and then saw Cid still smiling at him and continuing to insult Frank.
“Motherfucker!” he bellowed as his insides churned.
Cid had really brought some serious shit to his doorstep! Was he trying to get him killed?!
At the same time, Cid was still gloating. “You hear that? Victor is-—”
Smack!
Before Cid could finish, Victor had slapped him across the face, leaving him stunned.
Things were going so well, so why did Victor suddenly turn on him after spacing out?
Clutching his cheek, Cid grumbled miserably, “What the heck? They’re over there—you should be slapping them!”
“Well I just slapped you! Deal with it!” Victor bellowed.
He was certainly panicking, but also relieved that he ultimately remembered Frank Lawrence.
If things really got out of hand, Emilio would definitely come after him, and only a tragic fate awaited him.
“What?!”
Cid was dumbstruck.
What was happening? Why did Victor change sides out of the blue?!
Wait, could Helen already have an understanding?
But that was impossible!
Still, while Cid was left stunned, Victor rubbed his hands and smiled awkwardly at Frank, hurrying to him enthusiastically. “Take a seat, Mr. Lawrence and Ms. Lane. Here.” Even Frank had trouble keeping up with Victor’s sudden change in attitude, let alone Helen.
“Fuck off!” Victor barked as he kicked Cid aside, making him clear the couch for Frank and Helen.
Then, he took out the check Cid gave him earlier and flung it at his face. “I’ll deal with you later!”
He was basically murderous
whenever he looked at Cid now, but
fawning when it was Frank and Helen. “Please, make yourself comfortable. I’ll get the saffron tea it’s one of my most prized possessions.”
As he hurried outside his own office, he wiped the sweat off his brow while snapping at his secretary nearby, “Debbie, go brew the saffron tea, and use the best leaves!”
Even as the secretary who wore
thick makeup left in her alluring gait,
Victor peered through the door into his office, observing Frank and Helen for a moment before whipping out his phone.
“Hello? Yes, it’s me, Victor… Hahaha! Mr. Gus Zeller, I was just going to ask you something… Oh, it’s nothing important, I just wanted to ask about Frank Lawrence-right, there’s this pretty girlboss with him too. Just wanted to confirm that… Huh? There’s supposed to be two?”
