And with those words, Helen did not stop to listen to what Gina had to say and hung up.
“What?!” Cindy snapped right then, incredulous. “Am I missing something here?! How could you be so petty, Helen?! I was only late and neglected your laptop, and you’re throwing a fit?! I’m your cousin, and Will has already personally delivered your laptop! What more do you want?! He’s a busy man, and he’s already being more than respectful by bringing it back to you!”
Cindy’s outburst almost ruptured the veins in Helen’s temples.
Snorting in disappointment, she strode to her office while shaking her head, not inclined to breathe another word to Cindy.
“Honestly, what’s your problem?!” Cindy remained where she was, stamping her feet.
Nearby, Frank stood watching idly with a look that said it was none of his business.
He was just in charge of security and nothing else, though he could feel Helen’s blood pressure skyrocketing, and she was at her limit.
As a girlboss, Frank had seen how Helen often asked her employees to be serious, responsible, and efficient.
Still, she did not take into account how terrible Cindy could be, and she was probably cursing inwardly.
While it was terrible, Frank found it somehow hilarious since it had been awhile since Helen had been so exasperated.
It was certainly rare for an ice queen to be left speechless.
Still, as Frank followed Helen into her office, he was surprised to find Owen standing there.
The cowering, bespectacled head of accounting was doing his best to dissuade Helen. “I know you want to prove yourself, Ms. Lane, but this isn’t the way to do it!”
Owen then noticed Frank and Cindy walking in and quickly turned quiet.
Helen felt a migraine when she saw Cindy, but she gestured at Owen. “Continue.”
Seeing that Helen trusted both of
them, Owen spoke quickly and anxiously, “Please, Ms. Lane. Victorget is not your ordinary security company. They have the backing of a major Morhen faction, and their employees are every sort of scoundrel. Zamri’s scourge, that’s what they are! If you really did as Kallum said and tried to collect a debt from them, then you might…”
“What?” Helen asked, raising a brow.
“You might…” Owen gritted his teeth, but offered himself to finish, “Get killed!”
Cindy gasped and quickly sprang to her feet, “You’re collecting a debt, Helen? I mean, this nice man already said we won’t get that money! Let’s just give up and let them have that money, or we’d lose more than what we bargained for!”
Helen was ready to snap at Cindy for speaking out of turn but ultimately restrained herself.
Still, she inadvertently noticed Frank watching in glee nearby and rolled her eyes at him.
Turning back to Owen, she said, “Mr. Briggs, I understand that you came out of concern for me, and your show of loyalty is to avoid getting caught in the board’s conspiracies. Rest assured that you are safe from me.”
