After all, Helen could have all of the entire board jailed if she willed it.
They were all scowling-they certainly had no idea how Helen got her hands on the evidence against them, with every last bit of detail included. All they could do was to blame Owen now.
In the first place, they were supposed to assert their authority over Helen as she took on her new position.
Instead, she turned the tables and revealed all the dirt she had on them. She was clearly more than just a pretty face-she was a fighter who could throw a punch.
“Either way, I’m done.” Helen shrugged just then. “You can all leave now, and I won’t stop anyone here or plead for you to stay like you hope for. Instead, these documents will be publicized, and I will call for a shareholders’ meeting where we will decide your respective replacements. You will all pay for your stupidity.”
Her blunt words finally made them understand, and Mr. King-who had been insulting Helen in every way possible earlier-dropped to his knees with a thud.
“M-Ms. Lane! Please, anything but that!” he begged. “I promise… I’d never do it again! I will forfeit all my stocks and leave Lane Holdings. Just don’t present those documents! I still have a family to feed!” Helen stayed impassive despite the man’s tearful pleas, saying nothing.
Thud!
Then, Mr. Zock was on his knees too. “I-I apologize for my rudeness before too. Please, I’ll say yes to anything. Just don’t publicize those documents! I’ll never do it again!”
“What…”
The sight of both men dropping to their knees before a woman left Kallum seething beyond words. Pointing a shaking finger at them, he
bellowed, “Where’s your 221.1
What
at did you just promise me?! We could just kill her and be done with it But you had to embarrass everyone so thoroughly!”
Despite Kallum’s outburst, Mr. Zork looked up at him gingerly. “You should quit being stubborn, Kallum.
At least we have a shot at parole, but you’re already on death row!”
“That’s right,” Mr. King added hesitantly. “You should really start worrying about yourself instead of getting mad at us.”
“What…” Kallum was stumped.
“Ms. Lane, w-we were forced into this! Kallum threatened us!”
As both men yielded to Helen, the other board members abandoned their pride and started pleading to Helen too, with some even turning on Kallum to accuse him. Kallum could choke to death right then.
“Traitors… spineless wimps!” he howled.
But to everyone else, it was just the sad yapping of the defeated. There was no authority to it whatsoever.
The board members were no
fools-Heten already proved that she was capable enough to dig out their dirty laundry. Even if Kallum vowed that he would kill Helen, would she really be unprepared against him?
She simply did not fear Kallum. After all, she was now the head of the Lane family, and if Kallum really wanted to get tough with her, he would fall short.
And judging from Helen’s performance, she was an iron lady despite her pretty face.
