The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 979

Chapter 979

“Did you keep all of these from me because you were worried that I’d be heartbroken if you didn’t survive the curse-cleansing process?” It wasn’t until then that Lillian understood why he’d been reluctant to speak back then.

Callum evaded Lillian’s question. “Do you know what awaited me after my narrow escape from death and the thorough cleansing of the curse from my body? It was you, in the hospital, planning to have an abortion and claiming that you no longer had feelings for me, as you loved me no more!”

Every word he uttered then was like a slap to her face.

“I’m so, so, sorry.” Lillian sobbed.

“You don’t have to apologize to me again. Likewise, telling me that you love me is meaningless now,” Callum declared.

However, Lillian still persistently lay her hand on Callum’s cheek. She even added her other hand to it since it wasn’t enough.

“It’s not meaningless. If I once froze your heart and turned it into stone, I’ll warm it up and revive it again. Callum, please give me a chance, okay? Just one more!” Lillian begged bitterly.

Callum lowered his gaze faintly to conceal the fleeting internal struggle showing through his eyes. It had always been simple for her to rile up his emotions merely by pleading to him several times and shedding a few drops of tears.

“A chance? How so?” Callum replied after a considerable amount of time had passed.

“Let’s interact with one another like before. I only need one month, I swear! You have my word that I’ll leave you and not disturb you anymore if you still won’t forgive me and refuse to be with me after that. However, I hope you won’t avoid me within this period,” Lillian elaborated.

“A month?” Callum scoffed. “Am I supposed to believe that you’ll give up after a month and stay out of my life?”

“I can sign a guarantee!” Lillian quickly responded.

“That holds no legal effect,” Callum turned her down mercilessly.

“Well…” Lillian was in a quandary. Convincing him to trust in her had become such an ordeal. “I’ll swear upon my life!”

She trained her eyes on him resolutely. “I swear upon my life to leave you if you still choose not to be with me after a month and never appear before your sight of my own volition. If I were ever to fail, after giving birth, I shall-”

Callum interrupted abruptly before she could finish her oath, “All right, one month it is! Go back to Strico after that, and stay out of my sight.”

Lillian let out a long sigh of relief. Although she was not pleased with how confident Callum was that they wouldn’t get back together after a month, the bright side was that he’d agreed to her proposal at the least. “Well, you’ll have to pick up whenever I call you. You should also inform the security guard downstairs and your secretary in due time to let me through when I come looking for you,” Lillian launched into a spiel.

Callum turned away from her and walked to his desk alone.

He was baffled at himself for going along with such a preposterous request.

“A month? Is she really treating this as some kind of love game?” he sneered internally.

Alas, the thought of what she had been so close to swearing still caused him to shiver uncontrollably. He feared she was going to jinx herself.

He resisted it instinctively and didn’t want to hear anything about it.

Callum no longer paid Lillian any heed and went straight to flip open the documents on his desk, getting to work.

On the contrary, Lillian spontaneously planted herself on one side of the couch and placed the snacks she’d brought on the coffee table. She then poured herself a glass of warm water from the dispenser and

munched on snacks while browsing childcare-related websites on her phone.

They were in a bizarrely harmonious state, and everything felt so natural.

Lillian sneaked a glance at the busy Callum from the corner of her eye and felt as if she was back in the past.

She would curl up on the couch to eat and drink leisurely if he happened to have work on his hands. whenever she visited him.

His office was always stocked up with all kinds of her favorite snacks, and she eventually began. complaining, “Look how much weight I’ve gained. I’ll become obese one day with all these tempting snacks in your office.”

“It doesn’t matter. I’ll still love you even then,” he’d reply with a hint of a smile.

Yet, five years later, she wasn’t obese, and no snacks were allocated for her anymore in his office.

Lillian had been browsing childcare websites when she couldn’t help but secretly aim her camera at Callum to snap photo after photo of him.

She would have them for memories’ sake, even if she and Callum went their separate ways in the future.

A knock sounded from outside the office, and Callum’s secretary was greeted with the sight of Callum looking intently at a phone screen while standing beside the couch that Lillian was lying on.

A thin blanket covered Lillian.

“Mr. White, this is the report you requested. The secretary handed Callum the documents respectfully and caught a glimpse of what was on the phone screen. It turned out to be a photo of Callum.

“You may go.” Callum addressed the secretary and reminded them once more just as they were about to turn to leave, “Please shut the door softly.”

Callum looked troubled after the words left his mouth and felt he’d said something he shouldn’t have.

The secretary cautiously walked out of the office and closed the door.

Callum returned his attention to Lillian’s phone, which he was holding. There were plenty of photos of him stored inside it. Some had been discreetly taken while he was working earlier, while most of it was from when they were still in love five years prior.

Callum was absorbed while going through those photos.

Callum was going through the project report from his secretary when Lillian awoke. She paused when she felt a thin blanket on her before grinning cheerily shortly after.

“Callum must be the one who covered me with the blanket,” she mused. She’d lain down on the couch and fallen asleep unknowingly while looking through photos of him.
