The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 88

Chapter 88

In the days to come, the scar on her palm would likely continue to fade, much like what had happened between her and Jonathan. With time, it would all become less prominent, almost as if nothing had ever happened.

Rosalie gently clenched her fist and walked out of the Environment and Sanitation Administration.

She hadn’t gotten very far when a silver-gray Porsche blocked her path. Stepping out of the car was none other than the man who had been the subject of discussion among the girls from the Environment and Sanitation Administration. It was Calvin.

“Do you need something?” Rosalie asked.

“I’d like to invite you for a meal as a thank you,” Calvin said. He opened the passenger seat door, clearly expecting Rosalie to get in.

“You don’t need to thank me for the bracelet. I didn’t do much,” Rosalie replied, lifting her foot and attempting to bypass

him.

Before she could take more than a step, his hand abruptly rose, barring her path. His phoenix-like eyes fixed on her, veiled in an enigmatic gaze that left Rosalie unable to decipher his intentions.

“I’m not accustomed to being indebted to anyone, so I must treat you to a meal,” he insisted firmly, his tone leaving no room for refusal, and his gaze deepened.

Rosalie bit her lip slightly. A person like Calvin probably wasn’t used to being turned down. The more she resisted, the more he might persist. It might be easier for her to accept the meal.

Besides, if he had intended to harm her, he could have done so last night!

Rosalie didn’t say anything more and climbed into the

passenger seat.

Calvin then closed the car door and returned to the driver’s seat before driving away.

During the journey. Rosalie watched the receding scenery with a bitter smile. She remembered after graduating from university and becoming a lawyer, she used to believe that everything could be reasoned out.

But after all she had been through, she realized that sometimes, it depended on whether the other person was willing to listen to the reason.

If the other party wasn’t willing to reason with you, then you wouldn’t even have a chance to do so.

“What are you thinking about?” Calvin’s voice suddenly filled the car.

“I was thinking about the silver bracelet. It seemed to be quite important to you,” she replied casually.

A faint smile appeared on Calvin’s indifferent face. “Yes, it is important.”

“Since it’s so important, isn’t the person who stole your thing yesterday in a miserable situation?” Rosalie asked.

He glanced at her from the corner of his eyes and replied, “Yes, quite miserable, I’d say”

His voice was casual, but she thought that the person who had stolen from him probably had a really bad ending.

The car stopped in front of a restaurant.

Rosalie knew it was a well-known establishment in Strico. Booking a table was difficult here, and the prices were high too. A simple meal here could cost an ordinary person’s salary for one or two years, let alone the special dishes.

However, for someone like Calvin, dining here was probably nothing out of the ordinary.

After they entered the restaurant, Calvin took Rosalie to a private room.

“What would you like to eat?” Calvin asked.

“Anything is fine,” Rosalie replied.

Calvin took charge of ordering the dishes, and the table was soon adorned with an exceptionally lavish spread.

As she ate, Rosalie couldn’t quite figure out what Calvin’s intentions were. She wondered if he really just wanted to thank her by treating her to a meal.

Halfway through the meal, Calvin suddenly asked, “Ms. Leighton, you used to date Zachary, am I right?”

Rosalie’s hand holding the fork suddenly stiffened. She lowered her head and hummed in response. Sure enough, someone like him had probably investigated her thoroughly before inviting her out for this meal.

“Did you break up with him because of the accident that happened back then?” he asked again.

“So what if I did?” She raised her head and asked, “Mr. Gunner, the person I ran into was Jonathan’s fiancée. In Strico, who would dare to date me?”

“I would,” he said.

Rosalie was taken aback. She looked at the person in front of her in surprise, and her mind suddenly went blank.

“Well, do you want to try dating me?” Calvin asked.

When Rosalie heard these words, she didn’t feel any hint of ambiguity. Instead, the words sent shivers down her spine. The man in front of her, with a cold and distant expression, spoke as if she were just an object to him.

An object he had taken an interest in.

“From what I know, Mr. Gunner, you’ve recently started dating someone else,” she said, mentioning the gossip she had heard today at the Environment and Sanitation Administration.

“Yes, I’ve started dating someone. But if you choose to date me, I will naturally break up with her,” he replied earnestly. Rosalie couldn’t help but feel like she was in the middle of a joke, and a sense of absurdity washed over her. It appeared that Calvin treated dating as something incredibly casual.

“Why?” She was puzzled. Her appearance, although not bad back then, had deteriorated after three years in prison, and her current daily exposure to the weather without proper care didn’t make her particularly appealing.

“Your face. It’s nice, just the way I like it,” he said.

“Face?” She couldn’t help but touch her own face. She didn’t consider her appearance to be better than those of female celebrities in the entertainment industry.

What’s more, there were plenty of beautiful celebrities willing to be his girlfriend.

“Especially those eyes of yours,” he continued. “Your eyes, they are beautiful, but your gaze is too burdened and heavy.” His gaze was fixed on her eyes as he spoke. “So, what do you say? Do you want to date me?”

His

words appeared casual, but his gaze seemed like it could penetrate her, making it hard for her to breathe.

Rosalie suddenly stood up. “I need to use the restroom.” She came up with a reason and left the private room hastily. Calvin lowered his eyes, and a hint of playful amusement played on his lips.

Rosalie stood in front of the restroom mirror and stared at her face blankly. Her face had a clear complexion without any makeup, perhaps just passable. As for her eyes, she had never considered them particularly remarkable, maybe decent, but not the kind of eyes that would leave people in awe.

She wondered if Calvin was genuinely interested in her, or if was it just a passing whim, much like how Jonathan had found her intriguing and wanted to play a game with her.

The thought of Jonathan brought a sharp pang to Rosalie’s heart..

Her Jon was gone. The pure and innocent man in her heart was gone.

Rosalie shook her head. As soon as she walked out of the restroom, someone rushed up to her and slapped her across the face.
