The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 828

Chapter 828

But then, her confidence was rapidly shattering.

“Compared to letting me have real power, turning me into a mere figurehead Chairman suits the Tall family’s interests better. It would make you feel more at ease as well, wouldn’t it?” Callum said while smiling slightly, but his eyes were as cold as ice.

Madeline’s body trembled slightly. She had always been scheming and proud, believing that she had everything under control.

But at present, she was beginning to realize that the true control lay in the hands of the man before her.

Callum was well aware of the schemes involving her and the Tall family, yet he adeptly maintained a facade that left her baffled!

If he had appeared too compliant and eager to please, it would have raised suspicions in her mind. But over these five years, his display of struggle, his desire for power, and his contradictory feelings toward her had managed to lower her guard!

The man’s plan was too deep!

Terrifyingly deep!

Madeline turned around without saying a word and planned to leave. She realized that there was no point in staying there any longer. She needed to think about countermeasures as soon as possible!

However, as she reached the living room, she was stopped by Callum’s subordinate.

“Callum, what do you mean by this?” Madeline glared at him.

“It’s nothing special. I just hope that you’ll stay here for a few days,” Callum replied indifferently.

Madeline’s expression changed abruptly. “Are you planning to detain me?”

“It’s not really detention. It’s just a boyfriend wanting his girlfriend to stay here for a few days. Once everything falls into place in a few days, you’ll naturally be free,” Callum explained.

Madeline’s heart sank.

“A few days? Does that mean he has already made arrangements in advance?” she thought.

10:

“I won’t stay here.” Madeline attempted to force her way through. But she was held by Callum’s subordinate on both sides.

“Take Ms. Tall to the prepared room. Keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t leave that room for the next few days.” Callum ordered them coldly.

His subordinates complied and forcibly took Madeline away.

Madeline’s heart turned cold. She realized that even her visit to him had been anticipated. Therefore, he had prepared everything, including the room to detain her.

How could she have ever thought she could easily control such a man back then?

At that moment, Madeline was in complete panic!

The living room fell quiet again. Callum lowered his eyes and murmured, “Lillian, I won’t spare anyone who has hurt you.”

Anyone who had harmed her would pay a price, including….. himself! Lillian had taken leave from her work, so for the past few days, it was just her and her parents staying in the condominium. Callum’s subordinates would deliver their essential supplies daily, clean up the garbage, and leave after that.

The condominium had a working internet connection, which made it convenient for Lillian to stay informed about the outside world.

In these past two days, the major headlines outside revolved around the abrupt halt in the presale of a large real estate project by Tall Group. Moreover, White Maple Group had also declared the termination of their collaboration with Tall Group. In addition, a series of financial misconduct allegations were exposed against the Tall family.

Although the extent of those issues remained uncertain, the situation had already caused significant distress to the Tall family.

There were even reports suggesting that Tall Group was facing financial strain and had a bank repayment deadline coming up in three days. If the presale project did not get approved by then, the Tall family’s financial chain might snap, potentially leading to the collapse of the entire corporation.

Amidst those changes in the situation between the Tall family and the White family, the gossip and rumors surrounding Lillian had somewhat died down. What had started as a cliche love triangle had then turned

into a corporate battle.

The were a lot of speculations from the online comments as well. [Does that mean that Callum has completely fallen out with Madeline?]

[The marriage is probably going down the drain. The White family is safeguarding themselves. The Tall family is really going to be in deep trouble!]

[Could it be that Callum is deliberately distancing himself now in order to make things official with the homewrecker? He’s just waiting to watch the Tall family go down the drain.]

[Who would risk losing billions of dollars for a homewrecker? You can get any woman with some money. But if Callum helps the Tall family through this crisis, he could gain control of assets worth over a few billion! He must be mad if he’s willing to lose a few billion for a homewrecker. I bet Callum must be biding his time for a more opportune moment to seize the entire Tall family. After all, he’s a businessman!]

“A businessman?” Lillian looked at those comments with mixed feelings. She wondered if Callum’s request for her to wait a few days was a sign that he was waiting for something to happen to the Tall family.

But even if something happened to the Tall family, what difference would it make? She would still be labeled as a homewrecker. The only change was that she would receive fewer online attacks, and the buzz surrounding her would die down.

Perhaps in a few days, Callum could take control of many of the Tall family’s assets.

However, Lillian couldn’t understand why Callum was going through all that trouble. After all, with their marriage of convenience, the Tall family’s assets would eventually be his.

But Lillian decided not to dwell on things that puzzled her. It was best not to waste her brain cells on such matters.

Just then, a knock at the door sounded, and Abigail entered the room.

“Mom, why are you still up?” Lillian asked.

“I couldn’t sleep, but your Dad is out like a light,” Abigail replied, taking a seat by Lillian’s bedside. “Do you know how many more days we’ll be staying here?”

Lillian shook her head. Callum hadn’t specified a date.

“If you want to go back, we…”

“Why would I want to go back? You’re still under the spotlight. Going back will only lead to nosy neighbors asking questions. It’s more peaceful to stay here,” Abigail replied.

“Sorry. That day was my fault. I didn’t think things through.” Lillian

expressed her guilt. If she had insisted not to go to the hotel with Callum that day, none of those messy issues would have arisen.

“As a family, there’s no need for apologies between us. But…” Abigail hesitated. “What’s the deal between you and Callum?”

“Nothing, Mom. Callum and I have already broken up, and there won’t be anything between us in the future,” Lillian said.

Abigail let out a sigh. “Ah… What kind of mess is this? You and Jerick were just starting to get close, and now, with this situation… If people start thinking you’re a homewrecker, how are you going to find someone in the future?”

Abigail was worried about Lillian’s future.

Lillian also guessed that her relationship with Jerick would likely be -severed due to her recent circumstances, even though he had called to

console her these past few days.

However, just because Jerick didn’t mind the online rumors didn’t mean his family wouldn’t.
