Chapter 631
“Why are you crying?” Jonathan frowned and approached Rosalie.
Rosalie sniffed. “Just now… Lillian’s parents called me and said that Lillian had been transferred to another hospital. Thanks for everything.” She thanked the man sincerely.
Then came Jonathan’s placid reply. “Since it’s my promise to you, I’ll naturally fulfill it. There’s no need for thanks. After all, you’re going to marry me because of Lillian, isn’t it?”
As he spoke, he took a bath towel and dried his wet hair.
Rosalie took a deep breath and stepped forward on her own volition. “Let me… help you with this.” In the past, whenever he washed his hair, he had always liked to have her dry it for him.
Jonathan’s body stiffened slightly as he looked up at her. His dark eyes appeared a little deep behind the wet bangs in front of his forehead. “Are you trying to please me?”
Rosalie said, “Just take it as that. Even if Lillian was the reason for our marriage, I don’t wish for our marriage to change for the worse. Besides, if you’re not going to divorce me, it means that we’d be sticking together for a lifetime, right? You don’t want our marriage to stay cold all our life, do you?” The guy kept silent. After a short while, he handed her the towel in his hands.
“Bend down a bit,” ordered Rosalie. Given his towering figure, she could not reach his head to dry his hair if he did not bend over.
He stared at her with his black eyes and then slowly bent down until their lines of sight were on the same level.
All of a sudden, their faces closed into one another as they looked each other in the eye. Rosalie could vividly see her own reflection in those dark pupils of his.
Just like that, Jonathan stared straight at the lady as if he could not bear to miss the slightest change of expression on her face. With a proximity that close, he seemed to be able to see her through, so to speak. All Rosalie felt next was her cheek slightly hot. Almost subconsciously, she covered the man’s head with the towel, covering his gaze altogether.
She held the towel in her hands and wiped his wet hair bit by bit. At that moment, it was as though her imagination had brought her back in time to relive the past.
“By tomorrow, the hospital would issue the risk assessment report, but… Jon, I really don’t want to lose any of the three children. Every one of them is a life. If any of them dies in my tummy like this, or rather… if at the end of the day, that baby turns into a pile of medical waste during labor, I don’t know how I should face it.”
Rosalie thought that she might even regret for life that she failed to save that kid.
“Your body just isn’t made for giving birth to triplets,” uttered Jonathan coldly. “If the doctor still advises a birth reduction in tomorrow’s risk assessment report, I’ll push you onto the operating table myself even if it’s against your wish.”
That would make sense, for he could not bear having the possibility of losing her, not even a chance he would take.
“I’ll refuse you, by then. The law in this era has no right to force me to accept a birth reduction, and I won’t let anyone lay a finger on my babies!” said Rosalie.
For Rosalie, it was a bet that she had to wager. “I may agree to the idea of giving birth to the other twins safely if there’s no risk in reducing the number of births. But the thing is, the other twins must also be put at a much higher risk compared to the usual fetal reduction surgeries. I dare not take this risk!” Jonathan suddenly pulled off the towel on his head and glared at the woman in front of him. “Do you realize what will happen if your body can’t bear all three children?”
“At the very least, though, my body should be able to pull through the days shy of four months!” Rosalie glared at Jonathan without averting her eyes. “As long as I can hold on and make it to the 28th week, even

if the baby is delivered early with a cesarean section by then, it’ll still be possible for the child to survive, right?”
With the financial resources of the Youngblood family, even if the baby was born prematurely, it would inevitably receive the best care, and the chance of its survival would be greatly improved.
“But have you ever thought about how your body would be?” Jonathan raised his voice unwittingly. “Since we’re all taking risks, I want to take the risk with my children. I’m their mommy, so there’s no way
I stay safe and sound while letting them take the risk on their own.”
When Jonathan heard the word “mommy,” his whole body suddenly stiffened.
Once upon a time, his own mother had left him out in the cold when he was badly injured.
That woman in front of him, however, was willing to take huge risks for the sake of her own children.
Rosalie and Jonathan’s mother were poles apart, which made Jonathan wonder should Rosalie become a mother herself, Rosalie would surely be a dutiful one. He figured that their children would never turn out to be like him back then.
“Jon, I really want to keep all our three children. You may say that I’m too idealistic, or that I’m too emotional and irrational, but… You could never understand how desperate I was when the doctor deduced that I might be infertile for life. I feared that I’d be the only one left in this world eventually without a family! But now, I finally have three more kids, three more family members of my own flesh and blood. I really… can’t let any of them go. I know there’ll be risks, but I want to go all out and fight for myself and our babies!”
Rosalie poured out all her thoughts in her heart without any concealment. On top of that, her eyes were shining with a sort of firm determination.
“You’re willing to put your own life on the line for the sake of the children, is it?” Jonathan’s voice rang out faintly.
“Yes!” Rosalie answered without hesitation.
“So, you…” Jonathan abruptly stopped making a sound. The rest of his speech seemed to be stuck in his throat, and he could not bring himself to finish his sentence.
“I what?” Rosalie blinked in confusion.
“Nothing.” Jonathan looked away on that note. At that fleeting moment earlier, he had gotten so impulsive that he wanted to ask Rosalie if she would also risk her life for him.
“What was I expecting there? Did I actually wish for her to do the same for me?” Jonathan asked himself. It was nothing more than a ridiculous thought.
Even if Rosalie was willing to stay with Jonathan and cater to the marriage they shared, she would only be doing it for the children’s sake and to give the kids a happy family.
“It’s getting late. It’s time to sleep. We’ll talk about the baby tomorrow when we go to the hospital!” suggested Jonathan in an icy tone.
The lights were not turned off. Just like that, the two of them lay on the bed as the warm rays filled the
room.
Rosalie knew that it was Jonathan accommodating her habit: to leave the light on so that she could fall into slumber.
