The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 605

Chapter 605

“Innocent?” Calvin suddenly sneered. “The police have obtained surveillance footage that corroborates Fiona’s account entirely. Besides, the five witnesses don’t know each other at all, which makes perjury highly unlikely! All five of them have provided consistent statements!”

Rosalie suddenly said, “Have you ever been wronged before?”

“What?” He was stunned.

“Have you ever been wronged? All the evidence seems to implicate you, and you find yourself unable to defend against it, despite knowing your innocence. Have you ever been in such a situation?” She offered a faint smile. “I’ve been there myself, so I can empathize with how Lucas must be feeling right now. In any case, I must help him!”

He pursed his thin lips and studied Rosalie. His gaze was contemplative as if he were attempting to discern her innermost thoughts. “Even if I were to request that you stay out of Lucas’ case, would you still help him?”

“He is my friend. I trust him.” She met his eyes without

any retreat.

At that moment, a sense of oppressive tension seemed to hang heavy in the air.

After a few days of research, Rosalie realized that the current situation appeared dire for Lucas. She had unearthed several suspicious aspects of the incident that indicated Lucas had no intent to sexually assault Fiona. It seemed that everything had been orchestrated by Fiona.

However, the suspicious elements she found had yet to yield a solid chain of evidence. In contrast, the combination of surveillance footage, witnesses, and Fiona’s confession formed a robust chain of evidence against Lucas.

One crucial aspect was that none of the witnesses had seen the scene inside the car on that day. What they had witnessed was merely Fiona exiting the vehicle and raising a commotion.

However, in the realm of law, once a solid chain of evidence was established, this particular point tended to be disregarded. Moreover, according to the police, the Graham family had initially sought mediation, but Fiona adamantly declined any mediation efforts. She insisted on Lucas going to prison.

Hence, if the case were to result in a conviction, there would likely be no probation granted.

Thinking of Lucas’ case, Rosalie was in a particularly heavy mood. She recalled her visit to the detention center, where she had encountered Lucas’ parents. They were humble elderly individuals. When they saw her, they almost knelt down, begging her to make their son safe.

But making their son safe seemed to be an incredibly daunting challenge now.

This was a losing case, but Rosalie was determined not to lose. Having experienced the feeling of unjust imprisonment herself, she couldn’t bear to see others like Lucas endure it.

After some consideration, Rosalie decided to seek out Fiona. She was determined to uncover the motive behind Fiona’s involvement in this incident.

The hospital was the best place to find Fiona. Fiona came to the hospital every day during Calvin’s hospitalization. Sure enough, in Calvin’s ward, she saw Fiona, but Calvin was not in the ward.

“If you’re here for Calvin, he is doing the examination now. It will take him a while to come back.” Fiona smiled at Rosalie, obviously in a good mood.

Indeed. Everything was going according to her plan with Loretta. No wonder she was

a good mood. “I’m here for you.” Rosalie walked up to Fiona and went straight to the point. “Why did you frame Lucas?” “I don’t understand what you said. Why would I frame him? What benefits would I get?” Fiona asked back.

This was precisely where Rosalie found herself perplexed. “You aren’t even willing to consider mediation, are you?” “Would you be open to mediation with someone who attempts to sexually assault you?” Fiona gazed at Rosalie’s serious expression with a hint of satisfaction.

This time, she finally felt that she had the upper hand.

Rosalie took a deep breath. “Have you ever thought that if you do this, you will make an innocent man carry an undeserved stigma for the rest of his life?”

“Rosalie, stop claiming that I’m framing Lucas. You are also a lawyer. You should know that you have to show evidence for everything!” Fiona exclaimed arrogantly.

“How can you let Lucas go?” Rosalie took a deep breath and said, “Let me know your terms, and I’ll do my utmost to meet

them.”

Although she still didn’t understand Fiona’s intention, she had a nagging suspicion that it might have something to do with

her. Perhaps it was because of her that Fiona had framed Lucas.

“Even if I were to ask you to quit being a lawyer from this point forward?” Fiona taunted.

“Yes,” Rosalie replied without hesitation. If Lucas was sentenced to prison with innocence because of her, even if she continued to be a lawyer, it would be at odds with the sense of justice in her heart.

Being such a lawyer was pointless.

Initially, when she was young, her aspiration to become a lawyer had been fueled by her desire to secure genuine justice for a greater number of people.

“You’d be willing to give up your career as a lawyer for Lucas?” A voice emerged from behind Rosalie. The usual elegant voice carried an unbelievably icy tone at the moment.

Rosalie turned around and saw Calvin walking back to the ward. His handsome face was full of surprise, disbelief, and even a faint anger.

Calvin didn’t expect that Rosalie would say this. Lucas was only her former colleague at the Environment and Sanitation Administration. Yet, she was willing to sacrifice her career for his sake.

“I don’t want him to be charged with unwarranted crimes,” Rosalie said.

“Do you believe him so much? Even if all the evidence points to him, you still trust him?” He stared at her and asked. “I told you at the police station that he is my friend. I trust him,” Rosalie replied.

Calvin experienced a sharp pang in his chest. He recalled what he had instructed someone to investigate earlier. During Rosalie’s time at the Environment and Sanitation Administration, Lucas had shown a keen interest in her. He had even approached colleagues at the Environment and Sanitation Administration and expressed his desire to pursue à relationship with Rosalie.

Calvin began to question whether Rosalie regarded Lucas solely as a friend or if there were deeper emotions involved.

In an instant, a wave of jealousy washed over him. Despite being fully aware that she had never made any promises to him, and he wasn’t even entitled to feel jealous, at that moment, he couldn’t control his emotions. “If I were to tell you not to be involved in this case or interfere with it any further, would you agree?”

When he uttered those words, there was an almost imperceptible quiver in his voice, and his hand resting at his side trembled ever so slightly..

He was taking a gamble, betting on Lucas’ significance in Rosalie’s heart.
