Chapter 551
Amelia replied, “Yes. Didn’t I tell you last time that he really is your daddy?” She had no intention of hiding this fact from her son forever.
She had originally planned to tell him when he turned eighteen, but now the time had come much earlier.
“Why is Daddy only coming down from the sky just now?” Aiden turned to look at Warren.
Warren almost choked on his saliva and rolled his eyes at Amelia.
Amelia felt a bit embarrassed. She had mentioned to her son before that his father was in heaven or something like that.
“I didn’t know about you before, but now I do, so I’ll be with you often, Aiden,” Warren explained.
It was strange. He was usually so stern, but when it came to his own flesh and blood, he could not help but be gentle, especially when he looked at the hearing aid on Aiden’s ear. It tugged at his heart.
Even though Aiden had a disability, Warren was determined to ensure that he would not be inferior to anyone in the future. He wanted his son to be exceptional. He would not tolerate any discrimination against him.
Aiden’s face lit up with a shy yet hopeful smile. “So, will you let me ride on your shoulders in the future?” His eyes, similar to Amelia’s, could not hide his
eagerness.
He had always admired other children who could ride on their fathers’ shoulders. Although his mother had let him do it before, he still wished for a father to give him rides.
He thought, “Back when Mr. Graham allowed me to ride on his shoulders, I was so happy. I even wondered if my daddy would do the same if he were with me. I can’t believe Daddy is right here in front of me.”
Warren frowned. Ride on his shoulders? That seemed distant to him. It was like it belonged to a bygone era.
For a moment, father and son locked eyes, and the atmosphere in the car fell silent.
“Aiden wants to ride on your shoulders,” Amelia explained.
She did not want Warren to disrupt their peaceful life by being too present, but she also feared that if he refused Aiden’s request, her son would be disappointed.
“I know what that is,” Warren said.
Aiden blinked, looking at him with a touch of pleading. “Is it not allowed?”
Warren gazed at the adorable and innocent face in front of him. The overall features of the little one’s face, like the nose and lips, resembled how he looked when he was a child. But those eyes were so much like Amelia’s, especially when he smiled.
He wanted to see Aiden smile, not put on a pitiful face. “It’s perfectly fine. Riding on the shoulders is fine. Whenever you want to ride on my shoulders, just let me know.”
Warren could not refuse Aiden’s request, even though he considered it a somewhat foolish action for a grown man.
Aiden’s eyes lit up, and his face once again displayed a smile.
Amelia breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Warren had not refused Aiden.
As she glanced at Warren, their gazes met.
She noticed that he was looking at her.
In the car, Aiden began to talk about what happened at kindergarten today while the two adults exchanged glances.
The car arrived at the place where Amelia currently lived. As Warren had promised, he lifted Aiden high, allowing him to ride on his shoulders.
Aiden shouted excitedly, a rare moment of pure joy.
Looking at the scene before her, Amelia knew her son was really happy. Usually, Aiden was relatively shy and would rarely say anything to the people around him. Only when he faced close people would he be livelier.
It was rare for him to get this excited.
Warren displayed warmth in his eyes despite having a serious expression on his face and his formal appearance in a suit.
He responded to Aiden’s excitement, turning left and right as the little one directed.
No one would have expected that the usually stern CEO of York Group would have such a side.
Amelia’s eyes welled with tears as she thought, “Is this father-son bond innate? Warren had not participated in Aiden’s life until now. Despite the late reunion, Aiden seems to have readily accepted him. Is it a natural instinct related to blood?”
After a while, Amelia said, “That’s enough, Aiden. Let’s go back. Grandma is waiting for us at home.”
Reluctantly, Aiden climbed down from Warren’s shoulders.
As Amelia handed Aiden over to her mother, she noticed that Warren’s warmth had turned into indifference.
Amelia smiled bitterly, realizing that all he had left for her was coldness. Nevertheless, she did not mind as her feelings for him had long since faded. What mattered was that he could show Aiden some tenderness.
Amelia led her son into the residential area.
As they entered the residential area, Aiden kept looking back at Warren.
“Mommy, isn’t Daddy going to live with us?” Aiden asked. He knew from his kindergarten friends that daddies usually lived with mommies.
“Well, it’s because we separated a long time ago, so we don’t live together,” Amelia explained as she ruffled his hair.
Unexpectedly, Aiden suddenly asked, “Are you both divorced?”
Amelia was dumbfounded. “Divorce?”
“In our class, there’s a kid named Kyle. His Daddy and Mommy got divorced, but he lives with his Mommy. He said his Daddy visits him every week,” Aiden explained.
Faced with her son’s serious inquiry, Amelia could only give a vague response. After all, how could she explain to her son that she and Warren had never been married, and he was, in fact, a child born out of wedlock, not even considered a product of marriage?
However, such a truth would be too harsh to reveal, and she could not bring herself to tell her child the reality.
Fortunately, Aiden did not ask anymore.
Upon returning home, Amelia entrusted Aiden to Matilda and tidied up the stuff she needed for her food cart. Then, she rode her cart out the door.
Her voluptuous figure powered the cart with its three wheels, and the goods on board swayed as the cart moved.
She did not notice that Warren, not far away, was sitting in the car, looking at her through the window.
In the room at night, Rosalie could not fall asleep. Maybe it was what Jonathan said about the Room Where Blood Spills during the day that made her think about the ancestors of the Youngblood family and the women locked here.
