The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 526

Chapter 526

A smile spread across Rosalie’s face. Suddenly, she glided her fingers, gently stroking Jonathan’s eyebrows.

His eyelashes quivered ever so slightly, but he remained still. His hand, which had been pressed against the back of hers, gradually slackened.

Her fingers traced a trail from his eyebrows and eyes to the bridge of his nose, then finally rested on his lips.

His lips were beautifully thin, giving him a slightly cold, sexy, and attractive aura. When his lips curved into a smile, they easily tugged at her heartstrings.

“You mentioned your fear of repeating your father’s mistakes and losing control of your destiny. Am I right to interpret this as your fear that I might betray your love, just as your mother betrayed your father’s feelings?” Her voice was soft, akin to a soothing violin. There was no trace of resentment or anger in her tone. She spoke as if stating a fact, her voice carrying a sense of peacefulness, akin to the calm after a storm.

However, the calmness in her voice made him frown.

The last time, in her rental room, she had been similarly calm, and it had made him uneasy.

“Even though I professed my love for you and vowed never to leave your side, despite your repeated assurances that you believed me, deep down, you never truly trusted my words. That’s why you chose to end our relationship, isn’t it?” she said.

The frown on his forehead deepened further.

“Even though you keep saying that you love me and want to be with me, it’s rooted in your belief that I will eventually betray you, just like your mother betrayed your father when you claimed you’d give your life for me,” she continued.

Jonathan’s eyes flickered with a hint of inner conflict. “Does it mean that if I genuinely believe in you, you will love me and come back to me?” he asked.

Rosalie replied softly, “Why do you assume I will love you again just because you believe in me? Maybe you believe în me now, but in the future, your faith might waver. Besides…”

She withdrew her hand and pointed gently to her heart’s location. “I used to love you with all my heart, but now I don’t”

His pupils suddenly contracted, and his face turned gaunt when he heard that.

“Then please tell me what I need to do for you to love me again,” he said in a hoarse voice. “I will do whatever it takes.”

He was willing to do anything to ensure she wouldn’t give up on him and would be willing to love him again.

“There’s nothing you can do,” Rosalie stated calmly. “Jonathan, you’ve never been someone I could afford to love. Even if you believe me now, someday, your trust will falter. At that moment, your love for me will die at your will. Truthfully, in this world, you only trust yourself.”

His lips trembled as he asked, “Don’t you believe what I’ve said?”

She smiled lightly, her eyes slightly lowered, concealing the bitterness within. “Yes, I don’t believe it, which is why I don’t- love you either.”

The love between them had long been shattered into pieces. Now, it couldn’t be restored to what it was back then.

As Rosalie left the Youngblood residence, she heaved a long sigh of relief. After uttering her final sentence, she noticed that all his expressions seemed to have vanished.

He didn’t stop her from leaving. Just as she walked out of the memorial hall, she couldn’t help but glance back once more. She saw him standing in front of his father’s photo, appearing incredibly lonely and fragile.

It seemed as if he was the only one left in his world.

She could vaguely feel the pain searing through her heart as she witnessed such a scene.

She warned herself silently, “Don’t feel sorry for this man anymore. He doesn’t even want my sympathy. Besides, we are two horizons that should never intersect! Now, everything is just returning to its original state!”

The next day after work, Lillian came to meet Rosalie. They casually picked a diner and ordered some food.

“What happened between you and Jonathan yesterday? Did he make things difficult for you?” Lillian asked, her concern

evident.

Rosalie paused briefly before uttering, “He wishes to begin anew with me.”

“What?” Lillian was caught off guard by such an answer, her eyes widening in surprise. “Begin anew? Are you saying he wants to be your boyfriend again?”

“Yes,” Rosalie replied.

Lillian clenched her teeth instantly and remarked, “Well… Jonathan is incredibly shameless. He was the one who wanted to break up

you, and now he wants to date you again. Isn’t he trying to torment you?”

In Strico, Lillian might have been the only person bold enough to call Jonathan shameless.

Rosalie found amusement in her friend’s expression, and her mood lifted from the previous state of depression.

“I agree that it is somewhat tormenting,” Rosalie said.

“What about you? Did you say yes to his request?” Lillian asked.

Rosalie shook her head firmly. “No, rekindling our relationship is out of the question.”

Just then, the waiter brought their ordered food. Rosalie lowered her head and started eating in silence.

Meanwhile, Lillian’s expression shifted from anger to uncertainty. “Rosalie, have you truly moved on from Jonathan?”

Considering how devastated Rosalie was when Jonathan ended their relationship, Lillian couldn’t help but wonder if Rosalie had genuinely moved on, especially given that only a few months had elapsed since the breakup.

“Yes,” Rosalie replied gently.

“What about Jonathan? Did he give you a hard time?” Lillian asked again.

“He didn’t this time,” Rosalie replied.

“This time?” Lillian repeated silently, her worry deepening about what might unfold in the future. After all, despite Rosalie’s rejection, a man like Jonathan could employ various methods to coerce her into being with him.

“All right, don’t worry about me!” Rosalie declared. “Even if he tried to complicate things, how much worse could it get?”

After all, Rosalie had already lost so much. There wasn’t much left for her to lose now.

Upon that realization, Rosalie couldn’t help but chuckle. It seemed that when someone had lost nearly everything, they grew progressively fearless, simply because there was so little left to lose.

“If Jonathan truly attempts to complicate things, I’ll seek help from Callum!” Lillian declared. After all, she couldn’t bear to see her friend get hurt in any way.

When Callum came to mind, Rosalie thought of something and asked, “By the way, could you please ask for Callum’s help to investigate those three thugs who were taken to the police station yesterday? I’m curious if there’s someone behind them pulling the strings.”

Lillian was taken aback by the request. “Are you suspecting someone has intentionally instructed those three to cause trouble yesterday?”

“It’s just a suspicion,” Rosalie admitted. Her doubts had been triggered by the three gangsters’ apparent lack of fear when they entered the police station, as if they had no worries about the potential repercussions they might face.
