Chapter 511
She wondered, “Why is he digging into what happened to Amelia back in prison years later? Could it be that after Warren found Amelia, he developed feelings for her again?”
As Irene was speculating, the office door suddenly swung open, and Warren walked in. When he saw the documents Irene was holding, his gaze darkened slightly.
“Why are you here?” Warren asked.
“I-I made some snacks and brought them over for you.” Irene hesitated momentarily and said, “Warren, why are you investigating Amelia’s records?”
Warren approached and took the documents from Irene. “Since we’re going to court, it’s natural to investigate her activities over the years. It gives us more leverage in the case.”
“Is that really the reason?” Irene pondered inwardly. However, she couldn’t shake her unease. “Warren, I’m afraid. I’m afraid you might still have feelings for Amelia.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? I can’t possibly have feelings for her,” Warren said coldly. He turned to walk toward his desk, but Irene suddenly hugged him from behind.
“I’m sorry, I spoke out of turn. It’s just that people online have been mocking me recently, saying that you’ll never marry me and that I’m delusional. Warren, I just love you too much. That’s why I’m worried,” said Irene with a sense of grievance.
Warren’s expression softened when he heard this. “I know. During the banquet, I left suddenly, leaving you to deal with those rumors. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll have those online comments dealt with.”
He turned slowly and looked down at her. “You don’t need to worry or be afraid. We will definitely get married.”
Irene finally smiled.
After Irene left, Warren sat back in his chair with a somewhat tired expression. He opened the file on Amelia. As he read through it today, he couldn’t help but feel a suffocating sensation in his heart.
He had known that Amelia’s time in prison must have been difficult, but when he saw the details of her suffering there, he felt overwhelmed.
A woman, a pregnant woman at that, was subjected to such inhumane treatment.
-Even the fact that she managed to give birth to Aiden safely was a stroke of luck.
“Don’t let that woman affect you anymore. She doesn’t deserve it,” Warren murmured as he closed his eyes wearily, trying to push the figure out of his mind.
Back at the Fletcher residence, Irene returned to find Ivy eagerly awaiting her. “How did it go? What did Warren say?”
Irene smiled and said, “Warren said he will definitely marry me.”
“But you mustn’t make any mistakes!” Ivy warned, her tone turning venomous. “I never expected Amelia to appear in front of Warren again, and she even had a child. How can her luck be so good? Why didn’t she die in prison?”
She even went to the trouble of bribing people to ensure Amelia suffered more in prison.
“It’s too late now. No use dwelling on it,” Irene replied. “Anyway, when we get that child and raise him ourselves, I have plenty of ways to make sure it turns out badly.”
“In any case, you must not let Warren discover the truth about how you framed Amelia back then, and also…” Ivy’s voice trailed off for a moment. “Don’t let him know that Amelia was the one who really saved him with the bone marrow transplant.”
“The bone marrow transplant was conducted without both sides knowing who they were. Warren and Amelia didn’t know each other’s identities. Besides, I destroyed the records at the hospital. Warren will never find out,” Irene assured.
Speaking of which, the bone marrow transplant center had even called her once. At that time, she had indeed met the criteria, but she had declined, but Amelia agreed.
It was only later when she found out that the recipient was the heir of the wealthy York family that she regretted her decision. Unfortunately, by then, the transplant had already taken place.
She had to find a way to appear in front of Warren later and inadvertently reveal the information about the bone marrow transplant to make him mistakenly believe that she had saved him.
As for Amelia, she didn’t even know the man she had saved would later become the one who sent her to jail.
She would never let Warren or Amelia discover it!
“The future female head of the York family could only be mel” thought Irene.
After she received the document from Lawrence, Rosalie realized it needed to be delivered to Gunner Group.
She hesitated for a moment.
“Is there a problem?” Lawrence asked. “This document is urgently needed over there. Sending it via a courier would only delay things. That’s why you were asked to deliver it.”
“No problem,” Rosalie replied.
If she wanted to avoid suspicion with Calvin, she wouldn’t get to work in most law firms in Strico. After all, many law firms had some legal dealings with Gunner Group.
Just within the past year, there were numerous legal disputes involving Gunner Group’s celebrities.
As she held the documents, Rosalie arrived at the Gunner Group building. She explained her purpose to the receptionist.
“Okay, please wait a moment,” the receptionist said and made an internal call.
As Rosalie waited, she noticed the automatic doors of the building opening, and a group of people walked in. To her surprise, the person leading them was Calvin.
At this moment, Calvin was talking to a middle-aged man in a suit next to him.
Rosalie was stunned and subconsciously wanted to avoid him, but it was too late. Calvin had already seen her.
Under the gaze of the onlookers, Calvin walked straight up to Rosalie. “Why are you here?”
The people around them were astonished to hear a rare touch of gentleness in his tone.
Even when Calvin spoke to his previous girlfriends, his tone was consistently cool and distant, with an obvious sense of detachment. He had never spoken in such a gentle tone before.
“The law firm asked me to deliver some documents,” Rosalie said.
“Which department?” Calvin asked.”
“T-The legal department,” the receptionist replied. “The legal department requested that this young lady deliver them directly.”
“In that case, I’ll accompany you to the Legal Department,” Calvin said.
When he said this, the higher-ups and even the receptionist were left dumbfounded.
They wondered, “Did we hear correctly? Is Mr. Gunner actually going to accompany this woman to… the Legal Department?”
Rosalie suddenly felt like she was an extinct species, but the problem was she had no choice in the matter.
