The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 229

Chapter 229

It had been her darkest time, and she had even felt that life was meaningless. Had Lillian not visited her often those days, she would not have been alive any longer.

A sigh escaped the doctor. “Let the gynecologist see your examination report later. Maybe they can come up with some ideas to remedy your condition. Who knows?”

“Remedy?” Rosalie was stunned for a moment. “Is there really any other way to help me?”

“You’re still young, so we couldn’t just say you stand no chance at things. Besides, when it comes to the medical field, nothing is absolute,” said the doctor.

Inexplicably, a sliver of hope began to rise within Rosalie’s heart. As slim as that hope might be, she would still choose to hang on to it.

If her condition could be saved, she wondered if she would finally be blessed to have a child to call her own.

As she thought of that, Jonathan’s face suddenly appeared in Rosalie’s mind.

Should she be granted a chance to

We, she pondered which man would father her baby.

“Okay, you may get up now.” The doctor’s words interrupted Rosalie’s imagination.

She hurried down from the examination table, sorted out her clothes, and felt her heart beating fast. It was because that was

all a spur-of-the-moment thought

“Am I… thinking about having a baby with Jonathan?” she mused.

Rosalie followed the nurse o

of the B-scan room. She needed not to wait for her report, for the report would be summarized for the use of the doctor, who would then disseminate it accordingly to different departments for further consultation by the corresponding experts.

Even so, Rosalie did not expect Elodia, who was still queuing up, to run to her again and interrogate her loudly, “Did you buy a VIP package for physical examination? Aren’t you only a delivery person? How could you afford such an expensive package?”

Rosalie regarded Elodia with amusement. The latter was acting as though she was a judge in court, demanding an answer from her. Of course, it was as if Rosalie would be compelled to answer her questions.

“Don’t you think this is my private matter? I don’t see the obligation to explain myself to you,” Rosalie mocked.

Elodia also seemed to realize that she sounded a little aggressive, so she quickly pretended to say, “I’m asking all these for your own good. I’m worried that you’ll resort to illegal means again after you’ve finally got out of prison. If you make mistakes, you’ll face legal sanctions again. As you know, we lawyers are always more sensitive to such things.”

Wearing a frosty visage, Rosalie looked Elodia in the eye, and that made the latter feel a tad guilty altogether. “Hey, you… Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Ah, it was nothing. I was thinking that you seemed to be wishing for me to take a wrong step,” was Rosalie’s reply.

Elodia was almost choked by her own saliva. “W-What? No way… W-We were once colleagues, mind you, so it’s only natural for me to wish you well.”

“Oh, really? But you seem to fancy the idea of mentioning my imprisonment history in public as if you long so badly for everybody to learn about my past,” commented Rosalie bluntly.

Elodia suddenly blushed. There were still many of her colleagues queuing in line, and at that time, everyone’s focus was pinned on their exchange, so they naturally heard what Rosalie said.

Following that, some of them realized something on the spot and then observed the scene as if they were watching a play.

“I… I was…” Elodia wanted to cook up an explanation, but the problem was that she could not pull it off.

“All lawyers should know that the law is to judge whether a person is guilty from an impartial perspective, Even if he or she had committed gazillions of crimes before, it doesn’t mean that the person must also be guilty this time around. Yet, when you call a judgment, it seems that you’ve branded me with guilt at the very beginning, which is not something a professional lawyer should do.”

As Rosalie stated coldly, Elodia’s face grew all the redder. Rosalie had already touched on Elodia’s professionalism, yet the

latter found no refute to bite back.

Rosalie had not the slightest intention of lingering around to continue arguing with Elodia right after she said her piece. The next thing she did was speak with the nurse beside her and head directly to the next examination point.

Elodia stayed in the same spot, glaring at Rosalie’s back with hatred. When she wheeled around, though, she had to face the gazes of everyone from the law firm.

Smiling awkwardly was Elodia’s only option. With that, she returned to the queue in disgrace.

At the end of the day, she still did not find out how Rosalie had the money to buy herself the VIP physical examination package.

As for Rosalie, she returned to Jonathan after completing a series of examinations.

“Are you done with all the tests?” Jonathan asked.

“Mm, but some reports will only be available in the afternoon at the soonest,” answered Rosalie.

“We’ll grab breakfast outside first, then. You haven’t had breakfast yet,” Jonathan exhorted.

“Okay,” Rosalie agreed and walked out of the hospital with Jonathan.

“Where do you want to eat?”

“We’ll just eat anywhere nearby.” It was only 9 a.m., and there were still many shops around the area that had not closed their stalls yet.

“All right, then.” The man smiled and held her hand as they ambled toward the breakfast stalls near the hospital.

Rosalie eyed the pancakes, baguettes, and custard puddings sold there. She said to Jonathan, “Why don’t we eat here? I haven’t had these for a long time. I really want to have a taste of them.”

Jonathan nodded.

Rosalie made her order at the stall and turned back at Jonathan. “What do you want to have?”

“Get me the same ones you ordered.” The man yearned to taste what Rosalie was craving.

A pancake, baguette, and custard pudding, were Rosalie’s staple triad of breakfast menu last time. However, the price of the set of three spiked in recent years, and those items cost 1 dollar and 40 cents at present. Therefore, after she got out of prison, she would never buy them even when she passed by some breakfast stalls every time,

After all, at that time, it was considered luxurious for her to have a breakfast of 1 dollar and 40 cents. In most cases, she tried her best to budget for breakfast to be within 20 to 40 cents.

“By the way, can you accompany me to the rental home after I’m done with my matters at the hospital today?” Rosalie suddenly mentioned.

“Why do you want to go there?” asked Jonathan.

“I want to sort out some things left there first, and then tell the landlord about the rent cancellation.” After all, it did not make much sense to her to leave the rental home unoccupied like that.

She had thought about going back there to stay, so she did not think about canceling the lease.

Then again, since she liked Jonathan and they were both serious about their relationship, it would be better to quit the rent first so as not to waste money.

“Let’s go there right after breakfast, then. All the reports won’t be out until afternoon, anyway,” declared Jonathan
