The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 228

Chapter 228

On top of that, when Rosalie arrived at the hospital, there was already someone waiting to receive her. Basically, all she needed to do was follow the nurse.

WE RE GO FO

So, Rosalie followed the nurse to draw blood, take X-rays, and undergo a B-scan ultrasound examination, among other things. As for Jonathan, he waited for Rosalie in the VIP lounge of the physical examination center.

Be that as it might, when Rosalie followed the nurse around to do those tests, she saw long queues at the entrance of the majority of the departments.

According to the nurse, the physical examination was packed because there were some examinations going on for certain other organizations.

Just as Rosalie followed the nurse to the place where B-scans were carried out, a long queue was again observed at the door of several examination rooms. The nurse led Rosalie toward one room without any queue at all at the door.

“Rosie!” A voice could be heard calling out to Rosalie all of a sudden.

As soon as Rosalie turned around, she glimpsed Elodia standing in the queue at the side and shouting at her.

Rosalie was stunned, for she was not expecting to see Elodia there. “Elodia’s also here for a test? This means…” was her thought. She then took a gander at Elodia’s line, and much to her anticipation, she caught sight of some familiar faces of her own ex-colleagues from the law firm.

It seemed too much of a coincidence that the law firm where she used to work was also doing physical examinations at the same place on the same day.

Elodia exchanged some words with the people next to her gang before walking out of the line and quickly approaching Rosalie. “I really didn’t expect to see you here. Did you come here to deliver takeout?”

“No, I’m here for a physical examination,” replied Rosalie.

“Physical examination, you say?” Elodia scrutinized Rosalie. The dress Rosalie wore that day was indeed different from the other two times she was there for takeaway deliveries. If anything, she looked much more beautiful. “Fair enough. Besides, you haven’t had any physical examination after being freed from prison, right? You could really use one now.”

As Elodia spoke, she pretended to be sorry for Rosalie and continued with a regretful tone, “There are so many people queuing up today. I wanted to let you cut in at my line, which can save you some time. In hindsight, though, I thought it’d be unfair for those who were lining up behind me. I’m so sorry!

Η

That amused Rosalie, for should Elodia truly feel sorry for her, there was no need for that woman to spell it out like that. “Don’t be. I didn’t intend to cut in, anyway,” came Rosalie’s

response.

The nurse next to Rosalie piped up, “Ms. Leighton, could you head to the B-scan room first? The doctor’s already waiting.” “All right.” Rosalie gave the answer and followed the nurse into the said B-scan room.

Elodia was quite dumbfounded. She could only wonder why the nurse had led Rosalie into that ‘very B-scan room. That would be logical, for she had asked around the reason no one was queuing up in front of that B-scan room. At that time, some hospital staff claimed that they would not carry out tests for ordinary people in that room.

“How did Rosalie get to go into that room, then?”

Displeased, Elodia went back to her line, and a colleague who was also queuing up beside her said, “Was she our ex-senior who was once behind bars you mentioned before, Ms. Cresent? Is she also here for a physical examination today? Why didn’t she queue up at the back but instead enter that B-scan room?”

“Beats me.” Elodia pouted.

“Is she really a delivery rider now that she’s out of prison, Ms. Cresent?” the colleague asked curiously, for she had heard such rumors circulating in their office before.

“Yeah, she’s even been to our office several times for delivery. When we’re back in the office next Monday, I’ll order takeaways from the shop where she works again. Consider it a kind gesture to help their business grow.” Elodia might have smiled as she spoke, but deep down, she had already made up her mind to humiliate Rosalie when the time came.

She wanted to play Rosalie for a fool because the latter had always stolen the limelight from her back in the law firm. As a result, Elodia had been neglected and treated like a nobody, as if she were invisible.

That was why she yearned to have everyone’s attention to dance on Rosalie alone. She would have those people in the law firm witness what the pride of all women lawyers in their eyes had succumbed to.

It was time for everybody to realize what short-sighted fools they had all been.

Only through that could she vanquish the unquelled wrath within, or so it seemed.

At that juncture, a nurse passed by, and the colleague who was talking to Elodia asked the nurse, “Excuse me, before this, the staff told us this B-scan room won’t be conducting physical examinations for patients, but just now, there was a nurse taking

someone inside. What’s going on?”

“Oh, that person must be the client of our hospital’s VIP physical examination,” the nurse revealed.

“VIP physical examination?” That colleague froze for a fleeting moment before putting forward another inquiry subconsciously. “How much does a VIP physical examination cost?”

“It depends on the package chosen-the cheapest one is about a few thousand dollars while the more expensive ones range about tens of thousands of dollars. If you want to know more, you can head to the sixth floor. We have a dedicated information desk over there.” The nurse left after dropping that statement.

The colleague looked surprised and then turned to Elodia, who wore an astonished mien after hearing the nurse’s words.

“Are you sure that ex-senior is just a delivery person right now, Ms. Cresent?” Even the cheapest physical examination would cost a few thousand dollars. It was not something affordable for the common folks, in a sense.

“How’s that possible?” Elodia screamed, and her face appeared contorted, so to speak. “How could she be some kind of VIP client for a physical examination?”

“But didn’t she already go into the B-scan room for one?” remarked the colleague.

At that moment, those in the line who were also from the firm directed their gaze toward where Elodia stood.

Elodia also felt that she was a tad out of control. As quick as a wink, she composed herself and micromanaged her countenance as she forced herself to flash a grin at her colleague. “There must be some misunderstanding, I guess.”

In truth, she could not help but wonder what was going on. From her perspective, Rosalie could never have had the money, much less afford such an expensive VIP physical examination package.

In the meantime, Rosalie was being examined by a doctor in the B-scan room. When the doctor scanned Rosalie’s abdomen and uterus area, she could not help frowning.

“Ms. Leighton, have you ever had a serious trauma right on your stomach?” asked the doctor.

Rosalie’s heart trembled on that note. “Yes, I went through tests and treatments at that time. Then, the doctor said that my womb and uterus were severely injured, and this kind of injury is irreversible.”

In other words, even if she took good care of herself and tried to regulate her body with medication the best she could, things would not work in her favor. Moreover, she was still in jail at that time, so there would have been no way for her to pull any of that off.

Then came an abrupt question from the doctor. “Do you have kids?”

“No.” When Rosalie blurted that out, a wave of regret swelled in her chest.

In the beginning, being sentenced to three years of imprisonment was like falling from heaven to hell for her. To deprive her of having a baby for the rest of her life was akin to being picked up from six feet under only to be thrown deep into a bottomless abyss.
