Chapter 1265
His face suddenly changed, and he abruptly leaned forward, pressing her wrists with both hands, forcing her spine against the back of the chair. “Nonsense? Do you think what I told you back then was nonsense?”
“Isn’t it? Zephyr, in your eyes, there’s only self-interest, you don’t understand what emotions are!” she said.
He thought, I don’t understand?! If I didn’t understand, why would I live so frugally?
If I didn’t understand, why would I feel so regretful when I knew you were a normal person?
If I didn’t understand, why would I angrily break Harriet’s fingers after learning the truth about my severed finger?’
“So who understands then? Are you suggesting that Nicholas understands emotions?” he snapped.
“Yes, Nicholas understands. He knows what emotions are; it’s never just about self-interest in his eyes. He treated people sincerely and genuinely!” she said loudly.
He sneered, “Well said. So if Nicholas were still alive, would you have planned to marry him?”
She looked at him with a serious gaze. “If Nicholas were still alive and h wanted me, I would definitely marry him!”
The words she spoke were so harsh.
A wave of jealousy spread from his heart, and his voice grew colder. “Too bad, he’s just a dead man!”
“Even if he’s dead, I still want to marry him,” Riley murmured.
But her words only provoked Zephyr even more. “Fine, fine! You’re really devoted to Nicholas. Even after he’s dead, you want to marry him. But when he was alive, why didn’t you openly be with him? Why sneak around?”
Riley remained silent, no longer bothering to explain anything to the man in front of her.
In the past, she had explained countless times, but he always chose to believe the gossip rather than trust her.
Now, what was the point of explaining again?
Besides, back then, she explained because she loved him and didn’t want him to misunderstand. But now, she didn’t love him anymore, so there was no need to explain.
Her silence, however, only made him more convinced that he was right.
He stared at her and suddenly kissed her fiercely on the lips.
Riley was suddenly startled, then vehemently resisted, but her efforts were futile. His kiss was intense and suffocating, leaving her gasping for air.
He kissed her, initially wanting to vent his jealousy. After all, she had loved him. But now, she was saying she’d marry Nicholas even if he was dead!
As the kiss deepened, he started to feel disoriented as if he had returned to the past when he loved her deeply, and she loved him back. Back then, even the air was sweet!
Suddenly, there was a burst of pain on his lips, and then, the smell of blood entered his mouth.
She bit his lip!
But this did not stop him. Instead, he deepened the kiss.
The scent of blood filled the kiss.
When the kiss finally ended, Riley raised her hand and wanted to swing towards Zephyr’s face.
But immediately her hand was held by him. “Do you think I will let you hit me a second time?”
“You’re despicable. If you are really short of women, I can help you go to a nightclub and ask if there are any women who are interested in you.” She gritted her teeth.
However, he ignored her anger and just said lazily, “Tell me; if I slept with you in this car, what would the late Nicholas think if he knew about it?”
Riley’s expression changed. “If you really dare to do this, I will instantly sue you! By then, I think the whole of Lommore will know about your scandal! As for Nicholas, I think if he really knew, he would only feel sorry for me because I was forced to sleep with a beast.”
The air in the car suddenly became tense. “Then why don’t we give it a try and see if you will sue me or not?!”
He spoke while his hands moved to pull off her clothes.
She looked at him coldly but did not resist.
“How come you’re not resisting? Your so-called love for Nicholas was just empty words, wasn’t it?” he sneered.
Riley, however, remained calm. “If you truly want to sleep with me, I won’t resist. If I’ve finished what I need to do, then I’ll fight you with everything I have. But there are things I haven’t settled yet.”
So, she couldn’t let anything bad happen to her or be arrested by the police.
“Is what you need to do making sure Harriet, your father, and stepmother go to jail? Are you willing to give up all resistance for that purpose?” he mocked.
But she didn’t respond; she simply closed her eyes slowly.
For her, more important than ensuring the Summer family’s imprisonment was the need to uncover the true culprit who had killed Nicholas. She wanted to give Nicholas the innocence he deserved!
At this moment, she sat in the car with her eyes closed. Beneath the clothes that had been lifted, her body was covered in scars, with hardly a patch of skin left unharmed, bearing countless old wounds.
Zephyr froze entirely. He had known she had injuries, but he never imagined they would be so numerous.
At this moment, these injuries kept piercing his eyes, and the moment they came into his sight, it was as if his entire body’s blood had frozen. His heart contracted painfully, sending waves of agony!
“Get out, just get out!” Zephyr suddenly shouted.
Riley opened her eyes, hastily fixed her clothing, and rushed out of the car in disarray. She ran forward without looking back, as though trying to escape from the car and the person.
Zephyr, on the other hand, slumped heavily against the seat, staring blankly at his own hands. He then clenched them into fists and fiercely pounded the seat.
It felt like there was an unrelenting anger coursing through his body, making him feel so uncomfortable.
And his heart ached so much?
It was because of her injuries…
“What? Those doctors collectively changed their testimonies?” Riley looked at the lawyer in disbelief.
“Yes.” The lawyer sighed. “Based on the current evidence, it can only be concluded that your father and stepmother were involved, and Harriet was unaware. Due to the change in testimonies, it’s possible that your father and stepmother’s culpability will be reduced, and Harriet… she might be released without charge.”
Riley clenched her fists tightly, the veins on the back of her hands almost popping.
She thought, “Released without charge, how could this be!”
“Harriet… this cruel woman, how could she be released without charge?!”
Harriet was not only the one who had caused Riley to be sent to the psychiatric hospital and had continuously tormented her but she also… As Riley thought about the evidence she had recently discovered, her heart ached more.
