Chapter 1221
Seeing this, Rosalie knew that she wouldn’t be able to get anything out of Amelia even if she continued asking.
“Then have a good rest. Call me if you need anything, Amelia,” she said.
“Okay,” Amelia smiled.
Once Rosalie left, Amelia glanced around the quiet room and couldn’t suppress a bitter smile.
Suddenly, her stomach jolted as the baby inside her womb moved. It was a fetal kick.
Amelia tenderly placed her hand on her belly and softly caressed it. “My baby, I’m sorry. I can’t provide you with a complete family, but all I wish for is that your daddy lives well in this world. If… someday, when mommy is no longer here, at least your daddy won’t be too lonely.”
The duration of her life was uncertain and might only last a few years. She also pondered how long the transplanted liver in her body would remain healthy after giving birth to the baby.
Everything felt like a looming sword suspended over her head, waiting for the moment to descend.
She didn’t want someone to die with her when the moment came.
In a Lommore bar, Warren sat alone, nursing his drink.
He was aware that his emotions were in complete disarray.
Even though he claimed to have forgotten about their past relationship and no longer loved Amelia, it seemed that his body had an instinctive urge to gravitate toward her every time he saw her.
It was as if the love he once held for her had been etched into his very bone marrow, controlling all of his responses and actions.
Today, he kissed her to prove that he didn’t have feelings for her at all but as a result, he almost lost himself in the kiss. If it weren’t for his last shred of self-control, maybe he would have done something disgusting.
“Out of control, huh? I get out of control when it comes to her, too…” he thought.
At that moment, a woman in a figure-hugging dress approached Warren. She was adorned with alluring makeup and a seductive smile. “Sir, how about sharing a drink with me? It’s always more enjoyable to have company when drinking, don’t you think?” she purred.
The woman was clearly well-versed in such situations. As she spoke, her hand smoothly landed on Warren’s, which held the glass of wine, and her fingertips delicately grazed the back of his hand, a gesture that seemed both intentional and unintentional.
She had been observing this man for quite some time now as he sat alone, sipping his drink.
Furthermore, judging by the man’s attire, it was clear that he was rich. Combined with his striking appearance, she saw an opportunity to establish a connection with him that could lead to numerous advantages.
The woman’s subtle gestures became increasingly pronounced as a plan brewed in her mind.
However, Warren frowned in disgust and shook the woman’s hand away impatiently. “Get lost.”
The woman’s smile froze momentarily, but she made a greater effort to draw nearer to Warren. “Why are you pushing me away? It appears you have something on your mind. I enjoy hearing people share their thoughts. Why don’t you tell me?”
In the next instant, the woman’s hand snaked around Warren’s neck, and her lips drew nearer to him, seemingly about to kiss him.
Suddenly, Warren splashed the unfinished wine in his glass directly on her face.
“I said, get lost!” Warren’s frigid tone and icy stare sent shivers down the woman’s spine.
As Warren rose from his seat, several men gathered around him, blocking his path.
“Leaving so soon? We don’t like your behavior toward this lady. Unless you compensate this lovely lady right here, you won’t be leaving this place,” one of the men at the forefront declared.
Seizing the moment, the woman also approached the man, wearing a pitiful expression.
Warren quickly deduced that these people were obviously in cahoots.
He smirked with disdain. “You want money, huh? Well, if you’re up for it, come and take it.” With those words, he raised his hand, unbuttoned his suit jacket, and removed the luxury watch from his wrist.
Their eyes gleamed with greed at the sight of the watch. If that watch was indeed genuine, it could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars!
“This man might really be a big shot!” they pondered.
Then, they lunged at Warren.
The York family, despite a brief period of hardship, had always been a wealthy and influential clan. Warren, growing up in such an environment, received extensive combat training from a young age. H physical abilities far surpassed those of ordinary individuals, and he ha acquired a wide array of fighting skills.
In his current state, he could take on several enemies alone and still emerge victorious. Paradoxically, his earlier drinking had lent an imposing air to every punch he threw. Additionally, the alcohol in his system dulled the pain he might have otherwise felt.
The thugs had grossly underestimated their opponent and found themselves thoroughly beaten. As for the woman who had initially approached Warren, she was left utterly stunned by the turn of events.
Her legs went weak as she watched Warren grab one of the thugs and slammed the latter’s head against the wall until his face was covered with blood. She wanted to escape but didn’t even have the strength to do so.
As the thugs lay defeated and the woman slumped on the ground, a voice rang out. “I was considering stepping in to help you, but it appears I’m no longer needed.”
Warren looked up and spotted a tall figure approaching slowly.
“Calvin,” he uttered with a cold tone. It seemed that Lommore was indeed a small place, where he had encountered not only Jonathan but also Calvin.
“I didn’t expect to meet you here. It’s been a while, Warren,” Calvin remarked.
He and Warren had crossed paths a few times during their time in Strico.
Naturally, Calvin was aware that Warren’s presence in Lommore was related to Amelia.
“Look at yourself. Do you want me to take you to the hospital?” Calvin inquired.
“No, thanks.” Warren bent down, retrieved his watch, re-donned his suit, and exited the bar.
Calvin clicked his tongue and followed after him casually.
The patrons in the bar remained in a state of bewilderment until someone suddenly exclaimed, “Wait a minute… That man who arrived later, looked like Mr. Gunner from the entertainment industry!”
“By the way, didn’t that man who fought call him Calvin? That’s Mr. Gunner’s name!”
“Oh my goodness, I can’t believe Mr. Gunner is here! Who was the man who talked to Mr. Gunner just now?”
“Who knows? He must be a big shot, too. Otherwise, Mr. Gunner wouldn’t have entertained him.”
