The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 1038

Chapter 1038

A sudden burst of laughter escaped Amelia. She guffawed louder by the second, eventually choking herself up.

After quite some time, she stopped choking altogether, and there were trails of tears in the corner of her eyes. “You ask me to marry you, Warren?” Her voice reeked of mockery as if she had heard the funniest joke in the universe.

Warren’s mien darkened at that. “Yes, I want you to marry me.”

“You… How could you blurt out such a thing that easily?” That retort of hers was almost squeezed out of her gnashed teeth.

To be honest, what the man said was what she had longed for the most, but unfortunately, it had come to her in such a situation. Never could she fathom just how shameless he was to say that to her.

“I know that it was all my fault back then! Amelia, not a day has gone by without me regretting it for the past five years! I… I’m not expecting you to still have feelings for me one day, but… let me take care of you and Aiden, okay? I want to give you guys a better life and protect you all from harm!”

“No need, Mr. York!” refuted Amelia coldly. “If you ask me to stay just to tell me this, I can tell you loud and clear right now that I’ll never marry you, Warren York!”

After saying that, she was all ready to wheel around and walk off.

Once more, Warren latched onto the woman’s wrist. “Do you still hope to see Aiden be discriminated against and picked on like today?”

Amelia’s body trembled on that note. His words appeared to hit her weak spot, causing a crack in her heavily armed armor.

Aiden had always been what she cared about the most, much more important than her own life.

Observing her silence, Warren added, “Let me take you home first.”

“No, I can go back by myself!” She struggled to break free of his fingers.

However, in the end, Amelia was stuffed into the passenger seat by Warren. Just like that, the man drove in the direction of her concession stand.

There was absolute calmness in the car. Amelia stared blankly ahead on the road with no expression whatsoever on her collected face. Her heart, though, was inundated with emotions.

What Warren had said a while ago was like a record on repeat, replaying in her ears incessantly.

As the vehicle came to a halt at the entrance of her concession stand, Amelia unbuckled her seat belt and was about to get off. Warren, in turn, suddenly leaned over and tugged at her arm. “I’m serious about what I told you today. Take your time to think it over carefully. I’ll be expecting your answer.”

Amelia pursed her lips, not uttering a word. The only thing she did was withdraw her hand, open the door, alight the car, and leave.

It was not until her figure disappeared from sight that Warren looked down at his hands with a bitter smile.

More than anything, he wished that he could really hold her in his arms and stop her from leaving him. All he wanted was for her to stay by his side so that he could shelter her from the rain and storm.

It ultimately hit him that he indeed had to spend his entire lifetime to repent his only mistake.

He was pretty aware of how much Amelia did not want to get entangled with him, yet he leveraged the fact that Aiden got bullied to compel the woman to get back to him.

Perhaps the man yearned too deeply for that to happen. He longed to call the woman his own.

“Come back to me, Amelia. This time, I’ll make sure to stand by you at all times! I won’t let you get hurt anymore…” A whisper resonated in the silent car.

When Amelia returned to her residence, Matilda and Aiden could be seen waiting for her. Glimpsing her arrival, Matilda was relieved.

“He didn’t… do anything to you, did he?” Matilda asked worriedly.

Amelia shook her head. “No, we just talked for a bit.”

She then checked the time and said to her son, “Well, Aiden, you haven’t done your homework for today, right? Why don’t you go to bed early? I’ll go to school tomorrow to explain the situation to your teacher and win

your homework-

Before she could finish her words, Aiden piped up, “I’ll do right now!” With that, the little boy opened his schoolbag, fished out his

my homework homework and pencil box, and said to Amelia, “Mommy, I… I won’t simply let myself be bullied in the future. Don’t worry about me. I’m a strong boy, after all. A little pain is nothing to me!”

That made tears well up in Amelia’s eyes. Watching her son sitting at the tiny table and doing his homework, she could see how vivid Aiden’s red and swollen cheeks were under the light.

“A little pain is nothing? How could it ever be nothing?” she asked herself.

On top of that, when she was at the police station, she heard Matilda tell her that Aiden had been beaten by those children, where Aiden purely endured the pain in the end while protecting his own hearing aid on his ear for fear that it would be damaged again.

At night, Amelia lay in bed, and sleep eluded her.

Warren’s voice reverberated in her ears again and again.

“Marry me… Marry me… Marry me…” was all she could hear in her head.

The man’s words were chanting like a spell.

“Stop thinking about it, you!” Amelia secretly told herself that.

Never would she marry Warren no matter what. Nonetheless, her landed on Aiden, who was lying right beside her.

Seeing that innocent face, she counted the times she had seen Aiden getting hurt thus far. Despite trying her best, she could not seem to keep her only son from harm.

She figured that Warren might be the only one who could put an end to all that.

Amelia raised her hand and gently stroked her son’s cheek. “I’m sorry…” she cooed. Just like that, the air carried her soft but bitter voice.

In the meantime, Warren stood in front of an old apartment building, sweeping a cold gaze around the area.

The subordinate next to him said, “This is it, Mr. York.”

As the subordinate spoke, he paved the path for Warren as the latter

trailed him up the stairs of the apartment. Finally, they arrived at the door of one of the units.

Inside, several men in black suits surrounded a woman in a flashy outfit. The woman had heavy makeup on her face, tantamount to one engaged in promiscuous dealings. Still, at that juncture, her countenance screamed one of terror instead of the usual smile worn for greeting

customers.

The minute the door was open and the woman saw the person entering the place, she suddenly widened her eyes. Shock, fear, agony, and

helplessness flitted across her face before a sense of hatred got the better of her in the end.

“Warren York!” The woman almost uttered his name through gritted teeth.

“It’s been a while, Irene.” Warren regarded the woman before his eyes with an ice-cold look.

“Hmph, I can sue you for trespassing for breaking into my home like this!” As much as Irene used to love that man, she hated his guts at that instant.

If it had not been for him, she would never have ended up in such a miserable state.

“Try me! We’ll see if you have any chance of winning the case,” stated Warren frostily, beholding that wretch with intense disgust. “There’s always a parade of people visiting you each and every day.”

Irene’s expression changed, and then she showed the man a mocking smirk. “Indeed, people flock to my place in their thousands every single day. Some of them would even reward me with more incentives upon learning that I was once the fiancée of the CEO of York Group! For that, they demanded the exact same service I had given you back then.”
