The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike Chapter 1037

Chapter 1037

“Yes, I understand!” answered the lawyer.

Right at that moment, Amelia reached the police station in a frantic. As soon as she caught sight of her son, she sprinted ahead and checked on the boy carefully.

Even though her mother told her that Aiden only suffered nothing but some scrapes, when Amelia looked at the boy’s battered and wounded face, her eyes turned all misty and teary.

“Does it hurt?” she asked, seeming sad.

Aiden shook his head. “Nope.” Yet, upon parting his lips and speaking, he pulled the sore muscle in his face, hence baring his pearly whites and gnashing them in pain.

That put Amelia out of sorts once more.

Matilda, too, beat herself up again. “It’s all my fault. Had I learned that he had been in there for too long and summoned someone in sooner, Aiden wouldn’t have been hurt like this.”

“It’s not Granny’s fault. I… I’m just not strong enough.” Aiden blamed himself for not being strong enough to get the better of those people. Were he stronger than them, he would not have gotten hurt, nor would his mother and grandmother have to be put through the heartbreaking episode.

Amelia caressed her son’s head gently and turned to Matilda. “All right, Mom. Let me take over.” With that, she approached the policeman dealing with the issue. “Hello, officer. I’m Aiden’s mother. May I leave with my son now?”

“We’ve finished taking down the statement. This lawyer over here claimed to be Aiden’s representative lawyer. Are you going to file a case against the other party, or would you be leaning toward a settlement?” asked the police officer.

Amelia skimmed the statement before sneaking a peek at Milo, who spearheaded the pack that picked on Aiden. She had once resolved the matter privately in school, but she did not expect it to happen again.

Considering that Warren specially hired a lawyer, she naturally knew his intention. She might not wish to have anything to do with Warren, but

for the sake of her child, she would have to make do with it.

“I’d press charges against them,” replied Amelia as she wrote down her clear choice of refusing to reach a settlement with the perpetrators, not to mention undersigning the statement, complete with her contact details.

Seeing Amelia turn them away, those parents appeared dejected on the spot. Even so, they could not summon any courage to speak up because of Warren’s presence.

Amelia, for one, left the police station with her son and mother without even sparing Warren a gander.

Outside the police station, the instant Amelia wanted to lift her hand to hail a taxi, someone grabbed her arm. “Leaving already without saying hello?”

Amelia turned her head a fraction, only to be greeted by Warren tugging at her arm. “Mr. York, I’m going home now. Please let go of your hand.”

Warren stared Amelia in the eye, having not the slightest intention of loosening his grip.

The air around them at that point seemed tense.

Just then, Aiden stepped forward and tried to pull Warren’s hand away. “Let go of my mommy! Stop putting your hand on her!”

Warren glanced at his son and said to the subordinate who followed him, “Give Mrs. Haab and Aiden a ride home.”

“Yes,” the subordinate answered and came over to drag Aiden away. “Come, Aiden, let me send you two back first.”

Aiden resisted while Matilda sported a visage brimming with anxiety and powerlessness. The old lady was clueless about what to do.

Amelia then uttered through gritted teeth, “Bring Aiden home first, Mom. I’ll be home right after a word with him.”

“I’m not leaving. I want to go home together with Mommy,” came Aiden’s insistence.

“Be obedient, will you? I still have something to deal with. Go home with Granny first. You also haven’t finished your homework. I’ll come home before you know it. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine,” Amelia said.

Be that as it might, it was as clear as day that Aiden still looked worried.

Warren turned to his son and reassured the boy, “I’ll personally send your mommy home. If I wanted to do something bad to her, you couldn’t do anything to stop me even if you were here. Do you even realize who saved you today? Had I been a little late to step in, your injury would’ve been far worse than now.”

A hint of embarrassment flashed across Aiden’s mien, and his hands hanging beside him tightened into balls of angry fists.

In the end, Aiden left the scene with Matilda. Amelia turned to Warren and questioned, “What exactly do you want to talk about now?”

As Amelia spoke, she retracted her arm from Warren’s clutch.

Suddenly, Warren found himself grasping nothing.

It had always been like that—as long as he inched closer and had skin contact with the woman, she would resist him outright.

Yet, in their past relationship, it was she who took the initiative when she first held his hand. “Warren, I want to hold your hand like this forever,” had been her words to him.

As Warren recalled the past memory, to be by Amelia’s side for the rest of his life was more than his heart could ever ask for. Sadly, Amelia would rather spend the rest of her life without him.

“Why don’t we find a place to sit and talk?” suggested Warren.

“Save it,” Amelia rebuffed. “Just say what you want to say right here.”

“Aiden was bullied quite often, right?” Warren asked.

Amelia’s countenance changed slightly. After a brief moment, she hummed an acknowledgment.

“Human society has always been in such a way that the strong would bully the weak. If people were to learn that Aiden is my son, most of them wouldn’t have the gall to pick on him, don’t you think?” Warren’s tone was indifferent. He sounded like he was simply stating a fact.

Even so, only he himself knew how nervous he was when he dropped that speech. Even his hands hanging at the side trembled slightly.

Amelia’s body stiffened, and a trace of vigilance flashed across her face. “What are you up to? Are you trying to fight for Aiden’s custody once again and take him with you?”

At that moment, Amelia felt contradicted deep down.

Had it been in the past, she would have become royally resistant to his idea. Yet, at present, she actually thought that maybe it was in Aiden’s best interest if the boy were to live his life by Warren’s side.

By then, Aiden would be the scion of the York family instead of the son of an ex-convict running a small business at a concession stand to make a living.

With the York family backing the little boy, no one would look down on Aiden anymore, let alone have the audacity to discriminate against him.

Then again, Amelia could not help but feel heartbroken at the thought of going separate ways with her son.

“Of course, I know that Aiden is your everything. Since I gave up custody a long time ago, I wouldn’t be demanding that this time around. All I want to say is-marry me!”

The last two words from the man sounded almost like they stemmed from his every ounce of courage.

Looking at her sudden change of expression, he felt that his heart was pounding right up at his throat. She would never know how nervous and scared he was.

He even knew that he was despicable to have spilled the deepest desire in his heart at a time like that.

“Marry… you?” Amelia nearly doubted that her ears were playing tricks on her.

That made sense, for things between her and Warren had already come to that, and she wished nothing but never to cross paths with that man again. To think that he would ask her to walk down the aisle with him under such circumstances.

“Yeah, you heard me. Marry me and be my legitimate wife, the head of the York family. In this way, everyone will know that Aiden is the heir of the York family. No one will ever insult or discriminate against him, much less has the nerve to lay a finger on him like today!”
