Chapter 216
Chapter 216
After sorting out the issue with our supplier, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.
Ever since my mom was hospitalized, I’ve barely had a second to rest. Stella and the others, worried I’d burn out, would take turns visiting my mom in the hospital on my behalf.
But surprisingly. Bonnie decided to pay my mom a visit too.
At that time, Barbara Sands was with my mom in the hospital. Upon spotting Bonnie, she quickly informed me.
I dashed over as swiftly as I could.
“Irene, aren’t you supposed to be at work?” Bonnie was sitting by my mom’s bedside when I arrived. The heavy scent of her perfume was out of place
with her innocent demeanor.
Barbara rolled her eyes at the scene.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded, marching into the room, “Get out Now”
Im just here to visit Mrs. Finch! Bonnie feigned innocence, pointing at a bag of fruit beside her, “Look, I even brought gifts.”
I glanced at the bag. It was filled with rotten, substandard fruits. Bonnie was clearly here to stir up trouble.
I grabbed the bag of rotten fruit and chucked it into the trash.
Bonnie looked hurt, “I heard Mrs. Finch is unconscious; I came to see her. How could you treat me like this?”
Barbara grimaced, pretending to be sick. The next moment, she received a call from Silas and left the room,
I stared at Bonnie impassively. “Bonnie, why are you so hung up on me? You’re with Neil now. What’s left to fight about?”,
The hurt look on Bonnie s face quickly turned into resentment and anger. “Yes, I’m with Neil, but in his heart, you matter more to him than I do!”
“That’s between you and him, not my problem.” I didn’t feel responsible for their issues.
Bonnie clenched her teeth, “He kisses you, protects you, and even resolved the SaintlyBio Corporation problem for you. Irene, you’re a thorn in my side! I can’t stand your existence, got it?”
She was declaring war on me.
I found her laughable. The things Neil did for me were out of my control, and they only brought me more trouble. Did Bonnie think Neil and I were mutually in love?
“If you hadn’t intentionally caused SaintlyBio Corporation to terminate their contract with us, he wouldn’t have had to help me. None of this would’ve happened. Bonnie, you’re just too conniving. You shot yourself in the foot.’ I mocked.
“Why don’t you just give me your company then? My mom wasn’t joking about taking over your company, you know? Wouldn’t it be better if your whole family just left Rosemont?” Bonnie’s words made zero sense.
She was so eager to drive my family out of Rosemont
In her mind, I was enemy number one
‘Daydreaming much, young lady?” I was lost for words and that was the only response I could give.
Bonnie suddenly lost control of her emotions, yelling. I really hate you! Because of you, Neil postponed our engagement! You’ve made me a laughingstock!”
Her eyes were filled with hatred, as if she wanted to devour me.
I was taken aback. With everything going on, I’d completely forgotten about Neil and Bonnie’s impending engagement, let alone whether they’d had their engagement party.
No wonder Bonnie was so worked up. She must’ve sent out the invitations, only for Neil to delay the engagement, leaving her embarrassed.
“You’re already with Russel. He’s seen you two getting cozy, yet he still can’t let you go. I never knew Neil could be so sentimental. Bonnie’s emotions cooled a bit, but the hatred in her eyes remained.
Whether Neil was sentimental, I was not sure. But he was certainly a person who didn’t give up until he got what he wanted.
Sometimes I couldn’t tell if his actions were driven by possessiveness or love.
I didn’t respond to Bonnie’s words, only gesturing for her to leave.
Bonnie refused to leave, a triumphant smile on her face, “How did such a sharp-tongued woman suddenly fall unconscious? Did she do too many terrible things and is now getting her just desserts?”
“Bonnie!” I was livid. She dared to insult my mother! “Get out! You’re not welcome here!”
“Your dad’s been in politics for so many years, hasnt he done anything disgraceful? I’m really curious” Not only did Bonnie refuse to leave, but she also continued to provoke me.
At that moment, I saw my dad standing at the door. He must’ve heard everything Bonnie had said.
My dad could never tolerate anyone accusing him of corruption or abuse of power, even if his position did bring some benefits to our family’s business. *Please leave My dad said angrily to Bonnie
Upon seeing my dad, Bonnie finally toned it down a bit. Before my dad retired, he still had the power to influence their company, it was justame whether he was willing to use it.
Rising, she said, “Mr. Finch, I came specifically to visit Mrs. Finch today”
No sooner had she finished speaking than Russel appeared behind my dad. I wasn’t sure if they’d bumped into each other or had come together.
“What’s going on?” Russel frowned, “Where’s the medical staff? How can they let irrelevant people disturb the patient?”
“Russel, Mrs. Finch is unconscious, she won’t be disturbed. Bonnie responded sweetly.
Russel said coldly, “But you’ve polluted the air.”
Bonnie’s smile instantly vanished. After grabbing her bag and shooting me a glare, she stormed out.
The lingering scent of perfume filled the air. I couldn’t stand the smell, so I went to open the window.
“Are you okay?” Russel came up beside me, his voice low, “I found out about the problems your company’s facing. I only learned about Mrs. Finch asking my dad for help this morning. I’m sorry”
“This isn’t on you. You don’t have to apologize.” I said by the window. “But I kind of figured out how they feel about me, judging from how your parents treat my mom. Russel, are you sure you want to keep this up?”
The real deal hasn’t even hit us yet.
What we had been through was peanuts.
Russel held my hand tightly, his expression soft yet determined. “Yes. I’m not backing down. The whole reason I quit my job to work at my family’s company is that I want to be able to protect you. Just give me some time. I’ll level up as soon as I can.”
“Russel…”I felt a pang of guilt. Most of the time, it wasn’t that he couldn’t help me, but that I never turned to him for help.
A lot of times, Russel only found out about my troubles after someone else filled him in.
“Don’t sweat it, okay?” Russel saw the stress on my face and showed a sympathetic smile, “Actually, it’s my fault. Before we got together, I should’ve bulked up a bit and made myself more capable of defending you,”
