Chapter 202
Chapter 202
I held onto Russel’s hand tight, nuzzling into his arm, as we walked out of the restaurant.
I didn’t give a hoot about the burning stares coming from behind us.
As we were about to hop into Russel’s car, he got a call from the hospital. There was an emergency that needed his attention.
“Go! Work comes first!” I urged him immediately I’ll have Bailey come pick me up.”
Since I came with Barbara, I had to either call a taxi or have someone pick me up.
Russel looked back at the restaurant entrance with worry, I reassured him, ‘Don’t worry, I won’t exchange more than a word with him.”
“Good, because I’ll get jealous.” Russel was pretty straightforward about this, never beating around the bush
I found it refreshing.
“Alright, go to the hospital” I replied.
But Russel suddenly leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. I was taken aback and completely unprepared.
‘I’m off to work now. Text me when you get home” Russel said with a wide grin, seeing that I didn’t reject him or show any signs of disgust.
I touched my face, feeling a little embarrassed. All I did was nod, no words were spoken.
As I watched Russel speed off to the hospital, I finally pulled out my phone to call Bailey to come get me.
Bailey had just dropped my dad off at a meeting, and it would take him more than half an hour to come get me.
“If I weren’t already at work, I’d hire another driver for my dad, and you could keep being my personal chauffeur,” I sighed.
Since I was just an ordinary worker, having a personal driver wouldn’t be appropriate.
“Miss Finch, please wait a bit, I’ll try to be there as soon as I can. Bailey replied.
“No need; I’ll just take a taxi’ I quickly stopped Bailey. “Wait for my dad there.”
Bailey always respected my decisions. The only time he kept something from me was when Neil was hospitalized, and he didn’t tell me about the calls from Stella and the others.
But I could understand. He probably didn’t want me to get involved with Neil again.
After hanging up. I stood by the side of the road, trying to hail a taxi. But it was a weekend, so there werent many taxis available. I had to wait.
“Irene!”
Bonnie’s voice came from behind me, and I turned around.
She was still holding onto Neil’s hand as if she were afraid that he’d run away. The smile on her face was obviously forced. She walked up to me and asked, “Wheres Dr. Russel? Why did he leave you here alone?”
“He went to work.” I answered, cold and indifferent
“I heard you’re working now too.” Bonnie seemed to remember something. She turned to Neil and said in a coquettish voice, “Neil, my mom, sister, and i have decided to start our own company. I heard Irene’s family is in the makeup business, so we’re planning to do the same. I’m a newbie, so you’ll have to help me, okay?”
My family indeed ran a makeup business. We started as a distributor, but then we grew and started our own brand. We’ve been doing pretty well.
So Bonnie was planning to compete with us?
“Sure, let me know if you need any help.” Neil responded gently after catching Bonnie’s gaze.
His mood was a bit erratic. I noticed that he was sometimes cold and sometimes warm towards Bonnie.
But Bonnie was easily pleased. As long as Neil responded to her, she would beam with happiness.
“Trene, you won’t mind, right? I didn’t intend to open a makeup company to challenge your family’s business. It’s just that Neil told me that he knows a lot about this field since he used to be with you… Anyway, I’m just following his advice. Bonnie said, trailing off. i couldn’t help but laugh at her
Her words made Neil’s previously gentle expression turn cold.
The Whitmore family had many businesses, with headquarters and branches all over the country and even worldwide. They were involved in heavy and light industries and even had a hand in the entertainment industry. That was why Neil was so popular in the entertainment circle.
But the Whitmore family didn’t deal with makeup.
So what was Bonrue babbling about? Was she using Nell to provoke me on purpose?
“Bonnie, you should do some research before starting a business?” I advised her
“What?’ Bone was taken aback.
“When did Neil start understanding the makeup business? Can’t you at least consider reality when you lie?”
Bonnie looked surprised and then embarrassed She quickly glanced at Neil, hoping he wouldn’t deny her request.
Nåd stared at me, his dense eyelashes and deep eyes were captivating
After a while, he wrapped his arm around Bonnie’s waist, but his smile was a bit distant, Just because I’m not in this business doesn’t mean I don’t understand it. I’ll support whatever you want to do.”
Indeed, with the Whitmore family’s extensive connections, they would certainly have an understanding of this field.
“I knew you were the best!” Bonnie sighed with relief, the worry was now gone from her face. She stood on her tiptoes and planted a kiss on Neil’s face.
Neil’s brow furrowed but smoothed out when he met my gaze. He leaned down and returned the kiss on Bonnie’s face.
The two of them were clearly showing off their affection in front of me, but I wouldn’t be easily provoked.
Just then, the taxi I hailed arrived. I said to Neil and Bonnie, “Alright, I wish you success in your business and happiness in your love!”
With that, I got into the taxi and left.
Once in the car, I sent a text to Russel and then closed my eyes to rest.
After a while, the driver suddenly asked, “Miss, do you know the car behind us? Are they looking for you?”
I opened my eyes and looked at the car behind us through the rear view mirror. Neil’s Maybach was very noticeable, especially the license plate.
The driver seemed nervous. “You got in, and this car started following us. Do you have any personal grudges?”
“Don’t worry, he’s a friend. We don’t have any beef.” I reassured the driver.
“That’s good” The driver nodded.
I didn’t know why Neil followed me here, and Bonnie wasn’t even in the car. As soon as I left, they split.
When the taxi stopped at my place, I saw Neil’s car parked not too far away.
This was odd. I remember telling the property security not to let Neil into this area.
“Neil, what the hell are you doing here?” I asked crankily
I live in a villa area where each villa had its own parking spot and an underground garage. At this point, Neil’s car was parked in my neighbor’s spot.
Neil got out. He was very tall, and when he talked, he slightly lowered his head, which was a bit intimidating.
“What’s the matter? Do I need your permission to go home?” He asked coldly.
“Home?” I was a bit taken aback.
Neil didnt answer me. He just walked to the neighbor’s front door, and a servant promptly opened the door for him. He didn’t just go in; instead, he turned around and asked me, ‘Want to come in for a drink to celebrate us being neighbors?”
