Chapter 168
Chapter 168
I made a U–turn at an intersection, trying to catch up with Kate for a clearer look, but she was nowhere to be found.
I felt a tinge of disappointment, but quickly shrugged it off–after all, I had no intention to get tangled up with them again, so there was no reason to be disappointed.
I composed myself and drove off.
Life after returning home was pretty chill. I either visited Oscar in the hospital or hung out with Leila and Quincy at Stella Wallace’s place.
Oscar was recovering well and was discharged about a week later.
On the day he was discharged, I went to pick him up, planning to introduce him to someone over a meal.
“Trene, where are you taking me?” Oscar asked curiously from the passenger seat.
“Have you heard of Raymon Homes?” I asked.
1 know it. That’s a good real estate company. I applied there once but didn’t get the job,” Oscar said, looking slightly surprised. “You’re taking me there?”
I chuckled, “Not to the company, but to meet the boss. Show him what you’ve got and if you get a chance to get in, start as a technician, Someone will guide you, and you can work your way up to be an engineer or a project manager.”
Oscar was clearly delighted and said excitedly. “Really? If I can get in, the opportunities there would definitely be better than my current company!”
“Definitely.” I had this plan all along. If I treat Oscar as my brother, I should take care of him like a brother.
Raymon Homes CEO was named Raymon. We agreed to meet at Blissful Brews.
Upon reaching the cafe, I made a call first.
Raymon happily said, “Great, come on in. I have a business partner here. We can all chat together”
“Sounds good.” I hung up the phone and said to Oscar, “Let’s go, they’re waiting for us.”
We arrived at the cafe entrance, I pushed the door open, and a wave of coffee aroma washed over us, very comforting
Raymon was sitting right across the entrance. Two men were sitting across from him. They glanced back at the sound of the door opening.
“Irene?” Cooper exclaimed in surprise.
Neil looked disapprovingly at Oscar next to me.
“Mr. Clarke, you know each other?” Raymon, probably in his fifties, looked genuinely surprised, seemingly clueless about my relationship with Neil.
I didn’t find Raymon through my parents but asked Stella to help me.
Due to the nature of my father’s job, it’s inappropriate for me to contact others in his name.
So Raymon only knew me as Ms. Finch and was not aware of my relationship with Neil, or else he would have offended both me and Neil.
“Yes, we’re friends.” Cooper glanced awkwardly at Neil
Oscar got unhappy at the sight of Neil. Trene, let’s leave.”
I stopped him, “Go sit with Mr. Raymon”
Raymon wasn’t usually in Rosemont. Since he was here, I didn’t want Oscar to miss this opportunity.
Oscar understood my arrangement. He silently nodded and sat down beside Raymon.
The cafe had tables for four. Raymon asked a waiter to bring an extra chair, perfect between Neil and Oscar, I took the seat without hesitation.
Neil glanced at me, and I pretended not to see
We had just started chatting when Raymon suddenly suggested, “Coffee is boring. Let’s go have some drinks. I’m buying. Drinking is more fun, let’s all have a meal and a few drinks!”
“Sure.” Neil agreed. For him, socializing was routine.
Oscar looked at me, and signaled him not to worry
We were here to seek help today, so we had to play by other people’s rules.
Soon we switched from the cafe to a restaurant, ordered a table full of food, and mainly drank
Luckily, Oscar had worked in various bars before and had built up a good tolerance for alcohol. He and Raymon were having a blast
“Mr. Whitmore, come, I toast you!” Raymon, flushed from drinking, decided to toast Neil.
From the dining and drinking, I noticed that Raymon respected Neil and Cooper a lot, but wasn’t as enthusiastic with me. After all, he thought I was just Ms. Finch who came to ask for his help to find a job for my brother.
If I really had connections, would I still need to go through someone else to contact him?
‘Ms. Finch, you should drink too. You seem to have a low tolerance. You’ve only drunk this much, and that’s disrespectful to me.” Raymon toasted Neil and then looked at my glass.
I hadn’t drunk much because I was on my period and needed to be careful.
“Here, Mr. Raymon, I’ll toast you!” I raised my glass and said to Raymon with a smile.
like straightforward women like you, Ms. Finch!” Raymon, probably drunk, suddenly grabbed my hand and said inappropriately.
quickly shook off his hand, my smile fading, and Oscar stood up, looking angry.
I promptly calmed him down.
This was my first time in such a situation, but I wasn’t nervous because I had heard similar stories from Alicia
“Mr. Raymon, you seem to have had a bit too much” Neil suddenly said, his gaze cold and stern
I’m not drunk, I can hold my liquor!” Raymon burped, “Mr. Whitmore, look at this sister and brother pair. They’re so close. Ms. Finch had someone contact me, wanting her younger brother to join my company. I never expected Ms Finch to be so beautiful! And so elegant
If Raymon wasn’t drunk, I’d eat my hat.
He completely missed the darkening look on Neil’s face.
I looked at Raymon Was this how he behaved when drunk?
“What did you say? You jerk! Oscar couldn’t hold it in any longer. He wanted to make a move, but I stopped him.
He couldn’t offend Raymon, or the consequences would be unthinkable.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Raymon flared up, “Say that again? Is this how you ask for my help?”
Standing between the two, I felt agitated, “Mr. Raymon, you’re wasted. I’ll take him home, we can talk some other time.”
I thought it would be easy, but Raymon messed it up with his drunken antics.
Being in a bad mood, I decided not to rely on others next time, but to handle things on my own.
“Finish this bottle of wine, apologize to me on behave of your brother, or give me a kiss, and I won’t care anymore. Otherwise, we still have a problem!” Raymon was totally hammered, showing his irrational and sleazy side
Before I could respond, Neil snatched the bottle and dumped it over Raymon’s head, soaking his face with booze.
Raymon seemed to sober up, looking dazedly at Neil’s furious face, “Mr. Whitmore, what the hell are you doing?”
“Fuck, a kiss?” After emptying the bottle, Neil smashed it on Raymon’s head with a stern face, “Are you sober now?”
