Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled Chapter 140

Chapter 140

Chapter 140

A non–severe heart condition doesn’t require admission to the ICU

I didn’t text Oscar back, just buried myself in work.

Kate wasn’t gonna let me off easy, she suddenly gripped my hand tight, all worked up.

She’s a bit bigger than me and stronger, too. If Orlando didn’t show up in the nick of time and blocked her I would ve definitely been shoved to the ground by Kate

“Linda” Orlando shouted, his tone a warning, “This is work time, what the hell are you doing?”

Kate glared at me, “Mr. Finch, your sister is the reason Bonnie had a heart attack, shouldn’t she be held accountable?”

Orlando probably just found out how tight Kate and Bonnie are, he glanced back at me, then coldly said, “Wasn’t it Bonnie who caused Rena’s divorce in the first place?”

Kate’s chest was heaving, she clearly couldn’t take Orlando speaking ill of Bonnie, she suddenly ripped off her work badge, “I quit!”

She’s worked for Orlando for so long, and now she’s angrily resigning, that just shows how much she cares about Bonnie.

But I don’t get it, is it just because Bonnie looks like her deceased sister?

‘Go do the paperwork in HR” Orlando was pissed off too, he made no attempt to keep Kate.

I felt a bit guilty, because all this did happen because of me. If I hadn’t been working in his company, Kate probably wouldn’t have quit.

Kate stormed off, Orlando called me into his office.

“I’m sorry” I felt so bad.

“Linda was too impulsive, pushing a colleague during work time, that’s not acceptable.” Orlando pinched his forehead, looking a bit worn out

“Are you really gonna let her quit?” I asked.

He had to admit that Kate was really good at her job, her leaving would be a loss to the company

Orlando shook his head, “No, I’ll talk to her. Rena, you need to handle your relationships at work, okay?”

I nodded.

After leaving Orlando’s office with a heavy heart, I felt distracted for the rest of the day.

After work, I left the company and went home right away

I didn’t expect to run into Russel Dawson downstairs.

“What are you doing here?” I asked in surprise.

“Do you know about Bonnie’s heart attack?” Russel counter–asked me.

I nodded, “Yeah, but I’m not clear about the specifics.”

He said, “I do, let’s talk about it upstairs.”

Hearing that, I immediately took Russel upstairs.

When I opened the door, the door across also opened, Louis came out with trash in his hand, he looked somewhat surprised to see me and Russel.

“Russel, you and Ms. Finch. Louis hesitated.

“We have something to discuss. Russel calmly replied.

I nodded at Louis and then took Russel into my apartment and shut the door

Russel sat down on the sofa and cut to the chase, “Bonnie is currently in a hospital where a good friend of mine, a cardiothoracic surgeon, works. He told me about Bonnie’s condition.”

I listened quietly

“Bonnie has a congenital heart disease, she needs a heart transplant. It’s a very complicated situation. Once her condition stabilizes a bit, Neil will arrange for her to to

go a hospital in Phenovia, she may wait there for a human heart transplant, or choose an artificial heart.”

I was shocked to hear this. I couldn’t believe that Bonnie had such a serious heart disease all of a sudden.

Could this be what’s bothering Neil?

That’s not right, Bonnie’s heart disease wasn’t caused by Neil, and he doesn’t need to take responsibility for it.

If that’s the case, it just means he cares about Bonnie, he doesn’t want her to get hurt.

Suddenly, I felt dizzy, my vision blurred, Russel’s voice sounded like it was coming from far away. “Trene? Are you okay?”

Then I lost consciousness

“She’s fourteen weeks pregnant, but the situation isn’t great, the hcg levels are low, the fetus is developing slowly, this fainting episode might be due to physical weakness and emotional shock.”

I slowly woke up amidst voices, I was in a hospital room, with a needle stuck in the back of my hand and IV fluid dripping down.

Russel sent the doctors away, then came to my bedside, he didn’t say anything, just quietly looked at me.

“Russel my voice was a bit hoarse.

Irene,” he said, “You’re pregnant, is this Neil’s baby?”

I was already in the hospital, I couldn’t hide it from him, so I admitted it

“Why didn’t you tell him? Russel’s face showed a hint of emotion, “You’re carrying his child, but you’re letting him be with another woman, you’re really something.”

I gave a bitter smile, “I only found out after the divorce, there’s no need to tell him I want to keep the baby, but I don’t want to be with Neil, these two aren’t mutually exclusive”

Russel got a bit worked up. “If you don’t want to be with him anymore, why keep his baby? Have you really thought this through? For yourself? For the child? A child is not a toy, it’s a life, if you give birth to him, you have to take responsibility for him, you’re gonna be a single mother!”

1 know, I’ve thought it over, I won’t regret it.” I was a bit flustered, but soon calmed down.

Russel took out his phone and showed me a picture, “Take a good look”

In the photo were two hands tightly holding each other, one of them also had a needle stuck in the back.

The caption underneath was quite touching, “Mr. Whitmore, as long as you’re by my side, I will have the courage to face anything”

I knew without guessing, it was posted by Bonnie.

My heart ached a bit, maybe because at this very moment, the father of my child was tenderly accompanying another woman.

“Her condition improved a bit today, she’ll be going to a hospital in Phenovia in a few days to wait for a transplant surgery.”

Russel put away his phone and asked me. “Are you sure you want to face all the problems that come with pregnancy and having the baby alone?”

I slowly clenched my hand, my eyes started to well up, and a huge rock seemed to press on my chest.

I’m feeling a bit suffocated, haven’t had a good cry in ages, so I’m used to choking back the tears.

A hint of a sob crept into my voice, “Have you ever thought, if I give this baby up, I might not be able to get pregnant again.”

Russel was stunned by the bomb I just dropped. His eyes filled with shock, then disbelief, “What?”

I once considered getting an abortion, but the doc hinted in a roundabout way that, given my health, it might be tough for me to get pregnant again if this baby doesn’t make it.

Unless I get really lucky.

This might be my only shot at having a baby in my lifetime, I can’t lose it.”

I took a deep breath, a tear that I couldn’t hold back slipped from the corner of my eye.

Russel was silent for a while, he slowly raised his hand, wiped my tear away, then let out a deep sigh.
