Yu Bo smiled slightly and explained, “Old Master says that young children can’t be apart from their parents. Since you guys are going back soon, he wants Little Bean to spend more time here. Old Master isn’t an unreasonable person. Spending the New Year’s with his great-grandson made him more than happy. So…”
Yu Bo paused and looked at Little Bean. Han Muzi seemed to have understood. She pinched Little Bean’s cheeks lightly and said, “Little Bean, why don’t you go and take a shower first then wait for Mommy in the room? The suitcase you brought with you is in Daddy’s room.”
“Oh, okay, Mommy. I’ll go shower now then.”
After she sent Little Bean away, Han Muzi questioned, “Mr. Yu. Do you have another reason for coming today?”
Yu Bo nodded then pulled out a brown paper bag from his briefcase and handed it to her. Looking at the brown paper bag, she was slightly wary about receiving it.
The last time Yuchi Jin gave her a small box, there was an invaluable diamond necklace inside of it. This time, it was a brown paper bag. Was he giving her money?
“Young Lady Ye?” Yu Bo called when he saw her staring blankly at the brown paper bag.
She pulled herself back. “Mr. Yu? May I ask what that is?”
Yu Bo did not answer. He pushed the brown paper bag to her with an ambiguous look. “You’ll find out once you take a look inside, Young Lady Ye. It’s Old Master’s affection for Little Bean. He instructed me to give this to you in person before we came earlier.”
She received it with trembling hands and had a nagging feeling that it was something of importance. It only seemed befitting to have money in a brown paper bag like that. However, when she held it in her hands, it felt unexpectedly light. It seemed like a piece of document.
Don’t tell me… Something flashed across her mind and she quickly pushed the brown paper bag back to him.
“Mr. Yu, I can’t accept this. Please take it back to Grandfather. Little Bean is still so young so there’s no need to prepare anything for him. I already felt out of line for accepting the gift Grandfather gave me at our first meeting. But now…”
She did not have any greed and every emotion she displayed was sincere. Seeing that, Yu Bo nodded approvingly. “You’re a down-to-earth person, Young Lady Ye. But, this was what Old Master instructed me to do. I’m just a servant in the Yuchi Family who has to follow orders.”
“Mr. Yu, please don’t joke around. You’re well-respected. How are you just a servant? The way I see it, you’re also an elder. So this gift…”
“You have to accept this today, Young Lady Ye. Old Master said that even if you feel pressured, you will just have to deal with it because this gift isn’t for you but for his great-grandson. It makes him happy as a great-grandfather to be able to prepare a gift for his great-grandson.”
At that point, she felt like it would have been unsympathetic to say any more. It was a gift for her son and it had nothing to do with her. It was not for her, either. What right did she have to reject it on her son’s behalf?
“I understand, Mr. Yu. I’ll accept it on his behalf for now. But when the time comes, I can’t say for sure whether he will accept it or not.”
“Okay.” Yu Bo did not say anymore either. What will happen later can be dealt with later. But now that she had accepted it, he was able to fulfill his duties. What came next was a problem for the future.
When she received the brown paper bag, however, she felt slightly uneasy. She was not used to his sudden kindness toward her. After all, she already accepted the diamond necklace from before. It must have been a precious and invaluable item, yet he gave it to her as a gift.
She speculated that Song Xin did not want the necklace. If that were the case, it still should have gone to Song An, but somehow, it ended up in Han Muzi’s hands. Besides, Little Bean also received a gift. Is Yuchi Jin looking out for our family? Since Little Bean stayed back, is he…
She turned to look at Yu Bo. After a moment, she decided to go into the kitchen and make a cup of tea for him. Then, she invited him to take a seat in the living room.
“Thank you, Young Lady Ye,” Yu Bo said with a smile as he accepted the cup of tea. After taking a few sips, he put the cup down.
“Mr. Yu, I know you’re Grandfather’s most trusted person. So I wanted to ask…” She hesitated, unsure of how to continue.
It seemed like Yu Bo knew what she was thinking. Upon seeing her hesitation, he said, “Did you want to ask about Little Bean? Old Master actually asked him last night and Little Bean was willing to stay by his side. Even though Old Master was touched, he felt like it was better for a child to stay close to his parents—unlike how he was brought up. He wanted me to bring Little Bean back today without any intentions of taking him back anymore.”
Han Muzi’s heart pounded and she quickly looked up at him. “Mr. Yu?”
“Young Lady Ye, I want to apologize on behalf of Old Master for what he did to you before, including what happened with Young Master Ye. Old Master has been suffering. In all the years that I’ve watched him, he has always been lonely and empty inside. When he finally found his grandson, he was so eager that he made the wrong decisions. After that…”
He brought a plane ticket to the company and hoped that I would leave.
When he did all those things, he did not feel anything at the time. But thinking about it now, he felt regretful. The mention of those past events triggered her memory and she laughed. “It’s all in the past now. I never took those things to heart. In fact, I’m so thankful for Grandfather because he gave Moxuan a second chance in life. No matter what Grandfather does, I will never be angry at him.”
Yu Bo looked at her in gratification. “Turns out my years of experience didn’t give me the wrong impression of you. I always thought you were a kind and considerate child, Young Lady Ye. Looking at it now, I wasn’t wrong about you.”
The sudden compliment made her blush and she said bashfully, “You’re flattering me, Mr. Yu. I’m not as good as you say I am.” She was just in agony at the time and felt like she had lost her whole world. When she found out that Ye Moxuan was still alive later on, she was beyond delighted. From that moment on, she felt like God was looking out for her. Despite the plane accident and the vast number of casualties, Ye Moxuan survived. How could she have any resentment?
“Young Lady Ye, I shall return now since I’ve done what I came to do.” Yu Bo suddenly stood up and prepared to leave as she was deep in thought.
Han Muzi stood up. “Mr. Yu, would you stay for dinner? Grandfather…”
