Xiao Su had not returned. Ye Moxuan started to grow suspicious but he could not be certain. He wanted to call Xiao Su to check up on the situation, yet he worried that he would expose himself. After he waited and pondered for another five minutes, Xiao Su was still not back yet. As such, Ye Moxuan grabbed his car keys and headed out.
It was already the sixth day. He had not seen her for six days. He felt bitter on the inside but the reality was cruel to him. He experimented several times over those few days. However, no matter how long he stayed in the water, he only lost spirit as it did not help him at all. Other than feeling a slight familiarity as he met people from his past, he did not remember them nor show any signs of regaining his memories. Even if there was some progress, he only feared that it was a false alarm and was not too eager about it.
After Ye Moxuan arrived, the expression on Jason’s face changed when he saw him.
“You still want to continue today?” Jason asked carefully. They had done those sessions for several days in a row. Each day that Ye Moxuan came, his complexion looked worse than the day before. Jason feared that something would happen to him. Other than his complexion, however, everything else about him seemed normal. Furthermore, he always looked desperate to recover his memories whenever he went to Jason to begin their sessions—this made it hard for Jason to refuse him.
“No.” To his surprise, Jason heard a different answer from Ye Moxuan this time. Normally, Ye Moxuan would look at him with a bleak expression and simply utter the word ‘continue’. Then, Jason would have no choice but to carry out the session. However, he finally said no today. Jason assumed Ye Moxuan had thought it through and instantly felt excited. “Moxuan, you finally came around. I told you before that it’s better to experiment for one day then rest for a few days. That way, you won’t overexert your mind and body and also reduce the chances of risks happening. Who knew you would be so adamant to do it your way. I felt scared and anxious as I watched you every day. It’s good that you’ve thought through it now. So—”
Ye Moxuan frowned and had a look of annoyance on his face. He did not have the patience to hear Jason talk any longer. He cut him off abruptly, “Do you have time?”
“Huh?” Jason stopped as he got cut off and shot a doubtful look at Ye Moxuan.
Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes. “I can’t keep waiting for my memories to return slowly like this anymore. It will only be a waste of time to keep dragging this on.”
“Your point is?” Looking at Ye Moxuan, Jason suddenly had an unsettling feeling in his gut. His assumption about Ye Moxuan earlier started to feel off. If Ye Moxuan did not want to carry out the session, then he would not have come all the way here to look for me and would have stayed home to rest instead. Yet, here he is. As far as he knew, Jason felt that this visit was not as straightforward as he imagined.
When the thought of several terrifying possibilities entered his head, Jason gulped down in nervousness. “You c-can’t… possibly think?”
Ye Moxuan saw the terrified look on his face and smirked. “You’re very smart. It’s no wonder you were my best friend once.”
Jason was dumbfounded. That was the first time he saw a smile on Ye Moxuan’s face. Even though it was subtle, it was still a smile. However, this was not the kind of situation he had imagined seeing him smile. At that moment, Jason did not find his smile genuine at all but rather, chilling and frightening instead.
“Moxuan, listen to me.” Jason paused before continuing, “You can’t expect immediate results when you’re trying to get your memories back. What if everything backfires on you in the end?”
Ye Moxuan shot him a cold stare. “You said the same thing six days ago.”
That statement made Jason speechless for a while before he was able to respond again. “You’re right; I did say that at the time. But at the time, you also thought differently from what you’re thinking now. I’m telling you for real this time with no exaggeration whatsoever—do you want to have a mental breakdown?”
Jason wanted to strike while the iron was hot and did not want to give Ye Moxuan room to object. “You see. You probably know what you look like these days. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be hiding in a hotel every day and be too afraid to go home. Let me remind you again. Isn’t the reason you’re doing this for her? If something happens to you this time, how are you going to face her in the future? What do you want her to think?”
Ye Moxuan pursed his lips and did not say anything.
Jason did not know if Ye Moxuan was listening to him as his expression remained solemn. “Go home and think about this. I’m not trying to scare you, but if you want to keep doing this then I won’t help you anymore.”
Alas, Ye Moxuan looked up. “Is that so?”
Jason nodded his head firmly. “That’s right. I advise you to just go home and rest. There’s no need to rush on this.”
Ye Moxuan snickered. “Fine, I’ll deal with it myself then.” When he finished, he turned around upon seeing Jason’s astonished face and left with his car keys in his hand.
While Ye Moxuan was at ease, his words unsettled Jason. Ye Moxuan had shown up alone today, yet Jason had been brash with his words and claimed that he would not help him.
Jason thought, He wouldn’t put himself in danger, would he? Who knew he would make such a claim? Where is he planning to go now?
Jason immediately chased after him and pressed urgently from behind, “What did you say? Deal with it yourself? Where are you going? I’m telling you, Moxuan, don’t do anything stupid! Is your life not worth it? Aren’t they just lost memories after all? Would you go that far? Is it worth it?”
Jason felt like he was about to go insane because of him. He had always known that Ye Moxuan was a ruthless person—he was the epitome of ruthlessness. Ye Moxuan had the means and the intentions to do anything. Even so, Jason did not think that he would be so ruthless with his own life.
Ye Moxuan, however, did not care about what Jason was saying and did not acknowledge him at all. He left immediately and got in the elevator. Jason followed along out of worry for him. When Ye Moxuan started his car to leave, Jason opened the car door just in time and got in.
Ye Moxuan frowned. “I thought you weren’t going to help me?”
Jason refuted, “I’m not going to. But, why did you intentionally come to look for me? Why did you make such a claim in front of me? Do I look like the kind of person who would just watch you go to your death?” He will be in great danger if something happens and there is no one there to help him. If I watch over him, at least I can rush in immediately to help if necessary.
Jason scorned, “I owed you in my past life. Once you recover your memories, please just go home and get out of my sight. Stop making me worry about you.”
While Ye Moxuan was driving, Jason took the chance to open Xiao Su’s WeChat and turned on location sharing.
